gas coming out filler neck?!?!??

Don't know if this is the right place to post this but I have a problem with my Camaro that I have never had before on any car. It is a '91 Camaro RS 305tbi 700r4, and I just got done putting this car back together after buying it last year. Anyway, I have been driving the car for a while, but I usually only put about 7 gallons of gas in it per fill up, well the other day I wasn't paying attention, and filled it a little more full than usual, but not to the point where the gas filler shut off. Well for about three days ever time I would get in the car I would smell a lot of gas after driving it for a few minutes, turns out there was gas running down the outside of the car coming from the gas door.
So I am just looking for some ideas as to where to look, because it just seems really really odd to me that it would do this. I had the tank out of the car twice and changed the fuel pump and I never noticed anything wrong with the tank.

Any ideas would be awesome! thanks in advance.

Welcome to TGO. A search will usually find what you're looking for. Maybe something here, for example:

Re: gas coming out filler neck?!?!??

I had this exact problem - I had lost my gas cap and the replacement one was one of the "clicker" type. I could never put the gas cap on tight enough, and gas would come out if I took turns fast, etc.

Friday I picked up a new cap at Checker/OReileys and it works MUCH better. It is a Murray Ultra, part # 6822, UPC # 799304068228.

Hope that's all it is.... it cost me $7 I think...

Re: gas coming out filler neck?!?!??

hey thanks for the responses. I have used the search function a lot on here which is why I don't have many post, but admittedly I didn't use it this time becuase I was being lazy, but you are right the search function works pretty good.
as for the problem.... the last thing I did before having to scrap the other body I had was take the gas cap off and trade it. as I recall the one I took off my new didn't click, and the one I put on does! so I will run out tomorrow after work and pick me up a new gas cap and try that. if that is the problem, then so much for thinking I was trading up!!??
thanks for the insight
