I put a set of heads with the 202 and 16 valves and XFI" 292 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
GM 305-350ci 1987-98
Lift: .584"/.579" w/1.6 Rockers
Duration: 292°/300°
RPM Range: 2200-6200
It has the stock tpi intake and stock computer i have a set of hooker shorty headers will this setup work and what should i check
That's too much cam for a TPI. Too much duration. I'm not surprised that it won't idle. You're going to have a tough time ever getting that to run well.
Does it idle extremely low? When I finished my H/C/I swap, it would idle low, but ok with open headers. Once I attached the full exhaust it would idle super low and stall when put in gear.
My IAC was completely maxed out at idle. So I adjusted the TB screw and got my IAC counts at 80 at idle, and it idles perfect.
[Edit] I do agree about the cam though.

Too big of a cam period. Does the heads even handle that lift? what heads are on it and any work done? If not, then you have a mess of problems. Tear it all down and start over again
