Re: New Heads on a high miles SBC

Just clean ur deck really good, Honestly, you should have it machined but you can get away with just cleaning it real good.

Dont see how aluminum heads will blow up your bottom end??? Are they small chamber heads? Just dont buy heads that will make anymore than 11to1 compression otherwise your motor will ping unless you run race gas in it.

Get a head in the 64cc range, Witch if your car is a l98 it should have iron 083 64cc heads allready on it. But an aftermarket set of afr 190's will wake it up like no other!!!

Re: New Heads on a high miles SBC

My bad man, never had a 305 so I never new the actual name.

I personaly would not waste my money on a 305......but thats just me. 350 blockes are a dime a dozen and cheeeeep as crap, I mean really, you could spend a 1000 dollars on a set of heads and everything that comes along with it, or you could spend 300 dollars on a 350 block and be further ahead??? If my understanding is correct the tpi unit is the exact same for the 305 just smaller injecters, and some computer tuning....

But the heads your wanting to run will definetly wake it up thats for sure, wont hurt the bottom end at all.......unless you spray, or wing it up to 8000 rpms all day long.

Re: New Heads on a high miles SBC

Do a compression check on all cylinders first. If they test good, change the heads, cam, and timing gear set together. Your pistons will be covered with carbon so clean them off while you're in there.

Re: New Heads on a high miles SBC

I would not worry about blowing up the bottom end. If you raise the compression there might be some more blowby and therefore higher oil comsumption. But then again there may not be any.
