rebuilt top half and it wont start - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

i just rebuilt the top half of my motor in my 89 pontiac firebird formula
305 tbi and my question is that when i turn the key all that happends is that all the assesorys turn on but the motor doesnt even turn over. and a brake light apears on the dash could you hepl me find out what that means.

Make sure the grounds on the back of the heads are connected to the body.

i did do somthing like that but i connected the ground from the body to one of the intake head bolts just to see if that was it and i was not. but would that work just to see. or do i have to put it on the back of the head

It belongs on the back of the head but the intake manifold is grounded so it would work.

Without knowing what your top half build consisted of.....
Did you remember to hook up the ground from the battery to the bottom of the engine accessory bracket?
Hook up the wires at the starter?

yes i did all that everything is in place and were it should be but it still wont turn over. i also noticed that when i turn the key the gas pump doesnt engage. could that cause my car from turning over ?
and on the dash a brake light, lights up does that mean anything ??
