Orifice ON Return Line FOr New Fuel Pump

Hey everybody I am doing my first fuel pump changeout and I noticed the new pump (NAPA) has an orifice on the return line (I'm pretty sure its the return line). Compared to the huge line on the old pump I am wondering if this going to be a problem. Everything else on the pump is perfect. Is this a newer design or was my old pump wrong?? Looking for a quick answer as I need it for school tommorow, thanks all!!

NEW PUMP

This is my 1987 Sports Coupe Chevy Camaro. It is first car. So far these are the mods:Edelbrock Performer Intake manifold, larger jetting on the carb, hiflow cat, flowmaster muffler, NAPA aluminum hiflow waterpump, Hypertech chip(not much difference, but its there), MSD 6A ignition box, MSD GM blaster coil, and MSD rotor and cap. Right now I have no major plans for it being that it is my daily driver for going to school and work fulltime, but I'm always looking for little things to do to it. I have more pics at my cardomain page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2315311

Re: Orifice ON Return Line FOr New Fuel Pump

I got ahold of my uncle, a mechanic of 30+ years, and he said some of the newer replacement pumps come with an orifice on the return inlet and it was nothing to worry about. Future reference for anyone who is about to replace their fuel pump: getting the pushrod to stay up when you slip in the pump is the hardest part and you definitely need more than two hands.

ahhhh, if the pictures were working , I would have know you were talking mechanical fuel pump .

even on a few carbed engines I've built I run electric fuel pumps. at least ya got your answer and got the pump back on.

Next time you do a mechanical pump pull the rod and rub some axle grease on it and reinstall it and the grease helps hold it in while you put the pump in .
