Good cam choice for L31

So I got a very healthy L31 350 for basically free. Its going into an 89 rs that was originally equipped with a 2.8L.

So far I got..
-Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake Manifold
-Vortec heads are off to a buddys shop to get a simple P&P
-Would have liked to run a Q-jet but could only find the Air-Gap Intake in a spread bore so its probly going to have a Holley carb I have already =/

My power band should be around 1500-6000. I would like to maintain some tq but I'm more of an upper RPM guy. I'm a big fan of Comp Cams so I was thinking something like the Thumpr cam would be a good choice?

http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...?csid=216&sb=0

I am aware I have to get new springs and everything to allow the Vortec heads to lift higher than .48

Thoughts/Opinions on this cam or suggestions on a different cam would be very helpful.

that cam looks a little excessive to me. is this a daily driver? comp can recommend the best cam for your application. you can download their cam software for free.

Re: Good cam choice for L31

the vortec heads need too much work ($$$) to benefit from a cam like that. but the extra stall will like that cam. thats a lot of power hittin those rear tires. hope they stick

I did see that cam as well, however under the notes section tho it said machine work required for the heads??

How did that cam work for you? Good increase in hp and 1/4 times?

Also forgive me I don't know much about cam specs.

Re: Good cam choice for L31

Considering the Vortec heads pretty much flatline over .480 lift, I see know reason to use that cam at all. Maybe something along the lines of the GMPP Hot Cam using 1.5 rockers; this would still have your lift at .495. It would probably work well with the 2400 stall that you already have also.
