is my new 383 scat 9000 series crank bad??!? :(

just recieved my scat cast 9000 series crank in the mail yesterday. bought a balanced kit for 1260$ from CNCmotorsports. first off they forgot to send me my SRP forged dish pistons and piston rings! WTFFF!!! but it came with SCAT 5.7" forged rods with ARP cap screws and clevite 77 bearings and flexplate.

i decided to look at the crank to check the journals. it was already balanced, internal at the front end and external at the rear, crank was off by 90grams in the front and needed 60$ worth of mallory! this means i need to run a neutral balancer and the flexplate is external balanced. i open the box (which was slightly mangled... and i check the journals, woudnt u kno it with the first and 2nd rod journals there are marks. the first looks like a puddle of material missing, like air bubbles in the cast before polishing etc. my finger nail wont catch but i dont think this is good. check pic one

on the next journal there is 2 scratches running like it was scratched when being polished. my fingernails barely dont catch on them. i wanted some second opinions on these since im going to the machine shop to pick up my block tmrw (which cost me 950$!!!!) and i still have to clearance it for the stroker. Im gona have them look at it and see what they say. i only have pics of the first and i cant get a good pic of it due to the shine.

what you guys think? mark is in middle of black sharpie mark

Try using the macro setting on the camera, its out of focus.

I cant tell exactly, but with how bad the pictures are and I can still see the mark... I would not run that like it is.

sry i didnt kno how to use the macro setting lol.

im not very happy about it and i cant believe that CNC motorsports would allow this to happen... including not shipping my pistons and piston rings with everything else like they forgot. the piston weights are on the balance sheet...

so should i just call them and tell them i want a new crank? sucks bc they already balanced this one and added 60$ worth of mallory to it

Its often hard to tell from pictures and micrometer eyes what, if any, problems will be created by damage like that... but looks like the lower dent, probably where the damage started by the looks of it, has a raised area below the dent. That will wear the bearing area accordingly. I would send it back.

send that back. i balanced hundreds of cranks and most of them were Scat. i have never seen a new crank look like this. And why didn't they balance the crank internally on the flange side of the crank?

Re: is my new 383 scat 9000 series crank bad??!? :(

Geez! I've never had a Scat crank, but I wanted to buy one of their lower-end cast 400 cranks someday when I get ready for my mild build. I hope they don't all look like that, low-end cast or not! That looks like an old, used (up) crank, not a new one. And that's not counting the bad marks in the journal.

Dude, I don't mean to make you feel bad, but I definately wouldn't be happy with accepting that crank!

I hope you can get that all worked out OK with them!

Re: is my new 383 scat 9000 series crank bad??!? :(

i have to admit that the crank does look like CR@P. the journals dont look like they are polished at all, and the casting looks weird at the 1st journal.

im not messing around, im gona be pushing 480NA hp before the 100-150 shot and i want this thing to last a while. I talked with CNC today and I will be paying shipping to send it to them where they will inspect it and see if they can fix it/replace it(and they will pay to ship it back to me), if they feel its fine they will send it back and ill pay shipping again. either way im paying shipping one way. i really dont want this crank back, id rather them just start with a new one.

Im alil dissapointed in the crank, from what i hear scat is better than eagle as far as quality, and they are stronger than eagle due to a more therough hardening. The guy at CNC even recomended scat over eagle, saying the eagle crank wouldnt last in my motor unless it was forged.

they balanced the crank internal at the front and external at the rear. they said i would need a neutral balancer(which i have a powerforce 8") and it came with a external balance flexplate. im not sure why they did it that way but it needed a slug of mallory at the front to acheive this. guy said it was off by 90grams in the front. im gona be pissed if they say its fine.

I think you should demand a new crank, honestly. I'd just get a refund or something. You're entitled to that if you're not happy with it and I dont think they're kissing your *** enough after screwing up your order and sending you junk parts.
