oil pressure question

when i start my car after letting it cool down it starts right away no problem. little rough in the idle but not to bad. oil pressure is about 50 psi. after i drive it around and it gets up to temp and i put it into park turn the car off and walk away. when i come back after a few minutes it kinda has trouble starting takes a couple seconds to get it going. and the oil pressure is at like 30 and the engine seems to surge. i can see the oil pressure go from 25 to about 30. what would cause this problem anyone know. the engine is a fresh rebuild with just less then 500 miles.

Re: oil pressure question

gona say it has nothing to do with your oil.... 20-30 at idle is more than fine. 50 is good too. wat pump did u use? hope it was a new melling... and a stock one and not a high volume one.

after the car is warmed up the problem comes in... so im gona say that your started is heat soaked... basically your started gets hot due to the exhaust after the cars been running, this plays tricks on the starter, since heat is there enemy. it causes probs with the seleniod. usually i would just replace the starter and not mess with it, if you replace it with stock starter get a heat shield or wrap for it. or get a mini started with a heat sheild/wrap to protect it.

that is what it seems like, when the car is cold the starter is cold and therefore starts fine, run the car a bit=exhaust gets hot and heats the starter... u try to start it when its warm and BAM... starter is flakey.

i would consider a tune problem maybe or fuel related but i would check that out first. again i dont think the prob is the oil since it has nothing to do with the starting of the engine.

Re: oil pressure question

yea. i would think ud be fine. i mean ur still having 20-30psi at idle which is much more than is needed. esp if the oil is warm 20-30 is pretty good. when oil is cold u will have higher pressures but it should drop a good bit when it warms up.
