With my brother watching the motor for me while I fired the car up we found out where the smoke was coming from. Apparently the smog pump decided to seize up. I'm thinking of just taking the belt off and run the car that way. I would remove the smog equipment entirely but I don't want to screw anything up now that I think I have it running right and all.
Any other suggestions besides taking the pump out and fixing it or removing it completely? Taking the belt off should just take it off line and still run right? My AIR injection pump is snapped in two anyway so I don't think there will be any impact with the way the car is running.
Aside from local laws and inspection, your car wont care
Just be sure to plug the AIR lines in the manifolds and at the cat
Well since I have it registered as a Historic, and it does not need to go through emissions, I don't have a Cat on it either. (it rotted out and didn't feel like spending the money til I got it 100% right) I might just remove the whole thing and gain a tenth of a HP and remove that annoying AIR system as that was accidently snapped when we put this motor in the car. Thanks.
I decided due to my AIR injector valve being snapped in two and etc, there is a serious vac leak there anyway. Due to that I decided because of the historic plates and the fact I have no Cat anyway, I was gonna remove the entire thing.
Smog pump is out, the AIR valve is completely removed, naturally the belt is gone too.
Now the question I have is, can I use the longer section of hose and connect both AIR tubing openings together? My guess is if I connect the two manifolds at the AIR tubing it will close the system and seal up the leak but not have an impact on how the car performs.
Also I discovered a snapped TVS Purge valve (I hate old plastic) that I will replace and hook those hoses back up. Once all those things are fixed I should have just the hose for the Air cleaner and thats it. I have it running but at 1900 rpms which is no doubt a big vac leak.
You can remove the AIR lines from the manifolds and plug the holes with 1/4" pipe plugs. Very easy to do, and will look much cleaner.
I tried to do that this morning, didn't work too well because of rust and the fact that I'm gonna have to take them off the car to work on them better. So what I did was I got bypass caps. Put them on and tightened them down with normal hose clamps. The TVS valve is gonna be in tomorrow. I should be back in business sometime tomorrow afternoon.
