Car: 1987 Firebird Engine: 355 Transmission: T56 | Help: Q-jet Setting Idle Been a while since ive played around with a Q-jet.
Just installed one on a stockish 350 and having trouble getting it to idle. Its an 80's cc Q-jet with the idle mixture screws capped off. Electric choke, and fast idle stuff.
The idle is set too high (1100-1200) i want it to be around 800. I cant get it to go down. I have the electric choke hooked up, and that solenoid in front of the throttle that clicks the throttle on with ignition until its warm. The idle mixture plug isnt hooked up.
I played around with the idle mixture "screw" on the passenger side, and if i back it all the way out, the car doesnt like to stay idling. If i put it in even a little bit, it stays at 1200rpm, even if the regular idle screw is completely backed out.
My question is; how do i set it and in what order???
Wait till its warm? set it cold? fast idle, then regular idle? etc.....?
Heres what it looks like; (thats the actual carb, but its on a different engine now) | | |
