Flexplate problem cant find a starter to fit - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

i swapped from a 305 tbi to carbed 350 and kept the 700r4 tranny for now.. i used a 70s block with 14" flexplate now i cant find a starter to work for it.. Ive tried one for a 1991 camaro with 350, 70 camaro with 350 starter and 75 with 350 and 80 with a 350.... im drawing a blank and the starter for the 1991 will not line up without hitting the flexplate and the other years barely caught the teeth on it any ideas?

You need a 153 tooth flexplate and a block with the starter holes in a line (not staggered). Im not sure how big the 168 tooth flexplate is, so Im not sure if that's what you have, but I think you should look into that.

If you have staggered starter bolt holes you have to use the old style starter and larger flexplate... but I dont think a 700r4 will fit around it.

You just need a starter with staggered holes. Once upon a time you could actually go in and buy one based upon that description...... You'll need the right length bolts too.

168 tooth = 14".

You can do:
Mini starter
Truck starter
153-tooth flexplate ('82-'85 f-body V8 application)

With the 153-tooth flexplate, you can use a standard 3rd gen f-body starter. Although more work, the flexplate would be less expensive than the starter options. If you have or will have headers, you'll want either the mini starter or 153-tooth flexplate.
