check your diverter valves. They may not be switching the airflow to the exaust headers/ catalytic converter when theyre suppose to. You may also want to run your Camaro a bit hard before visiting the smog shop so that you can get your cat up to normal operationg temperature.

Re: NO Did not pass the smog

nox is what i think you mean, that is a byproduct of high combustion chamber temp.im assuming your emissions controls are still on the car. causes are usually egr vacum hoses disconnected, egr passages clogged, overadvanced ignition timing, bad catalyst.it would help to know all the readings.

Re: NO Did not pass the smog

if the converter is original ,its also long overdue to be replaced. those are the biggest causes of high nox............egr,timing,bad cat.

good luck

Re: NO Did not pass the smog

Hooyah, if your going to replace the cat, the only CA. legal ones are sold by Magnaflow. Unless you want to get the cheap Autozone ones. The cheapest on that I found was at CarQuest. They have the 3 inch 3 way cat which is about $125. The Magnaflow one will cost $200+. A new law had just passed this year on the 1st of Jan. So even if you go to a junkyard and find a Camaro with CA plates, it would still be illegal for the junkyard sell you the cat. In other words, you have to buy a new one, unless you stop someone before they enter the junkyard and offer up some cold hard cash for theyre cat.

Re: NO Did not pass the smog

Funny you mention the junk yard that was where i was heading tomorrow, i have a hook up there and will be hunting for a parts that can put me over the line so to speak. I have a exhaust smell entering the car when its on and i think it is due to a break in the exhaust manifold? my friend is a gear head and both he and i will be scrapping up the junk yard hit me up if you need any parts?
