transmission problem with 1989 rs camaro

seems like when the car gets hot the trans shifts funny. This happens only when hot. it shifts fine when cold but when it gets hot it seems like it slips into the gears or maybe it just skips 2nd and 4th then reverse sounds real rough. Today the reverse and forward seemed like it didn't want to move at all after the car was running for 20 min. I checked fluid and it was clean and didn't smell burnt and was full. While i was checking the fluid i heard a noise and it turned out it was this vacume canister that is located on the drivers side next to the radiator. I think the canister was suctioned together and then released when i was under the hood .could this be coincedence. After it happened i shifted the car in reverse and it moved fine then in forward also. keep in mind i only rolled a few feet. prior to this it barly made it to where i parked it.. can anyone help? Also I hope i dont lose this tread last time i placed and never seen where it was

When was the last time the fluid and filter were changed?

Smelling not burnt is good, but it doesn't mean it's okay.

Ok it is my first camaro and since i have had cadillacs for the last 8 years i treated it like a race car and did break stands and dropped shifter down to low while in motion not to exceed major damage but there was that one time....oops Oh and it is only a v-6 stock i just love the camaro
