383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
like title says running a 10.7-1 383 with a holley stealth ram intake ,holley throttle body & rails, 24lb trick flow stainless injectors ,
89 gta 165 ecm
MAF system ,
new howell harness ,new esc ,new ignition module , system came off a similar setup 383 with slightly larger cam,
it cranks and shows spark on timing light, checked injector harness and not getting the blinking light the service manual suggest and the plug are dry, 43 psi at the rail , the only time it fired was when i did the test on the 4 ping plug off the distrubutor that cycles the pump and fires the injector, cause soon after i tried to start it and fired up for about 2 seconds and died , so the ecm came with a custom chip from the other 383 and thinking maybe it still vats enabled, would that match the symptoms , also it will not throw any codes but 12 , the normal one , i need this truck for next weekend and you guys seem to know the most about this setup so any help would be great , thanks

Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
i dont think i can agree with that one , but in a car aplication it might,, i am running a universall harness and my starter is a push button directly to the starter, but how do i tell even if it has vats enabled short of checking the memcal

In that case VATS could still be there and not allowing the injectors to pulse.
Is the oil pressure switch for the pump hooked up and working?
ECM has to see the switch come online and the signal from the dist before it will pulse the injectors.
Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
ok i didnt know it was a direct push button start. well in that case look into what vetteoz is saying about the distributor signal. see if there is even voltage going to it. and even if all these symptoms remain, it very well may not be the vats, it could be the starter enabler relay (even if the starter is push button) because i believe the vats gets its power when the the enabler relay energizes to allow current flow. so a faulty enabler relay would be first to check. if that checks out good, then you move to the vats system.
Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
ok lets go into a little more detail , there is no oil pressure switch , the harness is completely basic plug and play, the 383 is in my s10 ,also no starter relay , harness only contains
CTS
MAF
IAC
TPS
INJECTORS
DISTRUBUTOR
IAT
KNOCK&ESC,BUT THE KNOCK IS ON A RESISTOR ,
so now vats is looking like the issue, i have a new tps and cts that i am bout to put in now
Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
well if your for sure set on it being a vats issue, and with your set up your describing, idk if you can even do the resistor bypass on it (which you must have the key to measure the resistance on the pellet) and you have the push button that requires no key. so idk man. if you got the key, then id go ahead and give it a whirl. its quick n simple to do.
Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
i can acces the key to the car, but would i have to run the resistor to the vats pin on the ecu , which my harness does not have or the module , so a a little more into the vats bypass would be great , thanks guys , i tried both a new tps and ctc with no luck
Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
I went threw the same issue, But my problems may of been more then yours, but in short
i had a push and a remote start that was removed, I have a viper that was installed and was installed on top of the VATTs system. Car had a no injector pulse issue as well.
Also i am a 383 with a universal wiring harness set up.
Thing in my case was the VATTs system/wiring and a shorted ground. The short ground jumped some other wires that effected other things.
And the car's alarm was an issue- viper turn off but not the VATTs.
i have to say it drove me nuts for 3weeks untill it was figured out and corrected the right way....
in short double and double check your wiring-VATTs and all wiring to ECM-check ground and look for a short any where.

I confused. You have a aftermarket harness with a stock ECM but no oil pressure switch? The ECM seeing the voltage from the OP pump is part of the start sequence http://www.corvettebuyers.com/c4vettes/l98.htm
Red wire 468 to ECM in diagram below
I assume the TPS is set at correct voltage; too high a TPS reading while cranking will shut the injectors down
Re: 383 stroker wont start, good fuel, pressure, timing is on,no injector pulse
nope no oil pressure switch , its a howell harness , tps is correct ,i have contacted tpichips to burn me a completly new cheap to in insure that vats is gone and should be better suited for my motor overall compared to the orignally burned chip, but brian well not be back till monday i guess so looks like i well be cuttign it close for my trip on next friday ,have not made the order confirmed yet still hoping to get figured out
