Any reason car may need 3-5 trys to start?
What are some good ways to add some power to the car?
Im 17 so im not rich and not a genius when it comes to cars
so things i could do to the car on a budget..?
How many miles do these things live for? it has 140k

Since the engines and transmissions are rebuildable, the cars last until the interior or body wears out.
We need to know what induction and exhaust system is on the car to answer the other questions...

And then they are still repairable with some time and money.

As for the 3 - 5 attempts to start....check and/or replace the following, plugs, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor, coil...after that she should fire right up!
Well this only happens when the engine is cold.
when the car is warmed up it starts right up and runs great.
But when its cold it takes about 5times to start and it runs kinda rough till it warms up..
You dont have a cold start injector. Hmmmmmm...............you could check your timing. It may be off by a degree or so. When you crank the engine, does it sound like its stuggling to turn over? If it does, you may need a new battery with higher cranking power. You may need to check how much pressure is in the fuel lines too. After a few turns of the key, your fuel pump activates to pressurize the system (fuel lines). So maby your fuel pressure system may be low.
- cold means not started in awhile = no pressure in fuel system.
- warm means not lomg since last start = still pressure in fuel system
fuel pump can run from the relay, OR the oil pressure sending unit - they both have power going to fuel pump. If car cold, maybe not starting because fuel pump not priming - which means bad relay. After 5 times, oil pressure building up, so fuel pump running off oil pressure sending unit.
when car warm - still have enough pressure in fuel system to start, then fuel pump kicks in from oil pressure and runs off oil pressure sending unit.

it's a thought - relay about $8.
Camaronewbie- On my driverside firewall, there is 3 relays, which one is the fuel pump relay? left, middle, or right one? I ask because my fump doesnt prime so I may need to replace it agian, I would like to save the trouble by doing the easy things first.
Okay first before doing this. Is it carb, tbi, tpi? One thing to keep in mind if the electric choke if carb isn't working properly it will not start. and to fix this. Cheap 9 dollar mechanical choke fix. or pay 40 dollars for the electric choke but before i get into any more info what is it? I understand it being 1990 prolly tpi. But never know people change them from time to time.
Well now a new set of problems of come up...
Today i went down to the store came out started up the car began to drive away but when i gave it gas nothing would happen i had the pedal to the floor and it would not throw any gas then the car began to shake and the rpms were in about the 500 then the car shut off. and wouldn't start for another 30mins...
I also so heard a banging noise from the back of the car?
Im thinking it must be the fuel pump??? not sure tho hellppppp!!!??!!?
Also the smell of fuel...

If you smell gas, then gas is leaking somewhere. turn on car but dont crank. You should hear a click (fuel pump relay) and sisten for the liquid smothered whine (fuel pump priming). Now head to under the hood. Check to see if a fuel injector is leaking fuel. look under car to see if you see dripping gas. pull off the vacuum line right at the fump pressure regulator to see if there is gas in there. Smell the tube, if there is a smell of gas, then your fuel pressure regulator may ther torn causeing an irregular fuel pressure thus causing an incorrect amount of fuel, thus agian causing the IROC to die. Most important, find that fuel leak. Its dangerous enough that there is a fuel leak. You dont want to start a fire. Is the banging noise coming from inside the tank? If so, the pump may of had fallen out of the retainer. Or check to see if ther emuffler is loose in the rear end. If the IROC was jumping just before it turned off, the muffler may of been bouncing back and forth with the momentum of the IROC causing the muffler to hit the under carriage of the body thus giving you the banging noise or it could be a soft backfire as a result of the incorrect fuel/air ratio. Hope this helps.
