Re: 67 heads on a 95 block??

Well kinda need more info. If the heads came of a 67 gen 1 SBC v8 and the 95 block is a gen 1 SBC not like an lt1 or something then it will work. However the 95 heads are probably 100 times better than the 67 heads even if there not the best of that year. Even though a new intake may be another few bucks i suspect it will be well worth it.

The other issue is accessory holes - the 67 heads will not have any accessory bolt holes, thus no place to mount your alternator, etc. Unless you get old school accessory brackets that use block holes and header bolt attach points instead of head mounting points.

Re: 67 heads on a 95 block??

the 67 is a 283.and the 95 is a gen 1.the reason I'm asking is I have the heads, intake and carb already.the 67 heads are I think 58cc heads and I do want to boost up compression alittle so I was thinking it would be a good fit

Re: 67 heads on a 95 block??

what would the compression be on the 95 block with the 58cc heads.the 95 block came from a truck and the stock 95 heads are 78cc heads.was told the stock 95 motor was 8.7.1 comp.

is'nt the only difference between the blocks are the rear main seals and the 87 and up blocks have the provisions for a roller cam?

Re: 67 heads on a 95 block??

Pretty much there the same. I mean the 67 283 was probably has a small journal block and theres other small differences but there still essential the same motor. Compression ide guess would be around 10:1 off hand without doing the math to get a precise number. Although again although i think it will physically fit i think the head is probably a pretty bad choice for performance. Will it run? Sure. Will it run well? Doubt it. Heads are a huge deal and back in 67 knowledge on the subject was pretty primitive by today standards. Better yet if the 350s got vortec heads on it thoes are great flowing heads by stock standards and even some aftermarket heads! So all you would really need is a new intake you could reuse the carb if you chose the right manifold and have an even stouter combination. The compression is fairly low but to me any gains made by upping the compression would be lost by the poorer flowing heads.
