5.7 TPI Started To Idle Rough And Stall.

Hey guys I am having some serious problems with my 350 TPI.
I have been sick for a week and havent been driving my car...
I went out today and started it up, everything seemed fine so I went
about my daily business and at the end of the day I walk out of wal-mart
and I start the car wait for it to warm up a bit after about 40 seconds the car
start idling really rough and stalls. I restart it and it does the same thing.
Restart it again and try to put it in gear...didnt get very far. I can force the car to stay on by pumping the gas in neutral but to get home I had to rev it up and dump the gear and race it home I did notice when it died that the starter was struggling to start the engine to the point of where it stopped turning a couple of times. Any help would be much appreciated...I cant have a 69 bird for a daily driver for too long.

Re: 5.7 TPI Started To Idle Rough And Stall.

Any trouble codes? Have you checked to make sure you have good battery voltage? The IAC may be the cause of your idle issue as thats supposed to supply the motor with the air it needs to idle. I would check your timing also. If the timing was too far advanced not only would it cause the car to run rough but it would also fight the starter making it hard to start. What im trying to figure out is if the hard starting and the idle issue are related or coincidental issues. Like the battery died down to the point it was hard to start because of having to start it several times kinda thing and not a result of the problem itself.

I am not getting any engine light but I think it may have flashed once or twice when it died...but hasnt come on since. I dont know if the starter problem is coincidental or not but since it was sitting it is very possible.

Re: 5.7 TPI Started To Idle Rough And Stall.

Well if you got a check engine light it may have stored a code even though the check engine lights not on (really should have in most cases). If it didnt the next thing i would do is intentially set a code to make sure it sets and stores codes as it should. To do this you could disconnect the TPS sensor and run the car. This should set and store the related code if it doesn't you may have other problems.

Re: 5.7 TPI Started To Idle Rough And Stall.

I will give that a try in the mornin...so I just disconnect the TPS and see if it throws the light? Just to clarify I am not 100% sure there was a light but I think there was.

Re: 5.7 TPI Started To Idle Rough And Stall.

Well if it didn't go on no big deal nothing to worry about its just if it did it should have stored a code. Since we don't really know if the check engine light came on or not its just good to confirm that codes are set and stored as they should be. If disconnecting the TPS sets the check engine light and when the codes are pulled, the code is still stored even after the TPS is hooked up and the car has been restarted and all that then we've confirmed that it is working and can forget about it. Also keep in mind just because the check engine light is not on dosnt mean that there's no codes stored so i would still try pulling the codes first.
