86 firebird 305 carburated, im having two problems right now. one started after the other so not sure if there related. 1st- after driving car for a good 20 minutes or so, when i stop and turn off the car it will not turn back on for atleast an hour. i turn the nkey to crank, but nothing happens. all gauges and lights turn on but there is no crank at all. had the ign coil and distributor module checked, both were tested 3 times and passed all 3 times. anybody ever ran into this problem before??
2nd-this started a few days after the first problem, i can rev the engine past 2000 rpm while it is in park, but once i put it in drive it wont go past 1800 rpm. it will start actin like its starving for gas and throw black smoke from the exhaust. carburetor is only 2 months old. anybody can help me out id gladly appreciate it.
hmm, don't really have an answer for you on your first question. But black smoke generally indicates its running very rich. Is the carb a stock reman or aftermarket?

When you put the new carb on, did you have it tuned? More than likely your new carb isn't tuned to your motor so if you are running rich it could cause some of your problems. As for why it won't go past 1800, I'm not sure, I've had some similar problems on mine that come and go periodically.
sounds like your first problem could possibly be the ignition switch, the one thats located bolted to the steering column under the dash, I had that problem once on my old 91 bird, though it was the starter acting up again til I replaced the starter and still same thing, it could however be your starter because the reason I thought it was my starter was because that 91 bird went through 3 starters the first 3 years I had it, each one when dying did that same thing, no crank at all, sometimes no power to anything at all like the battery was disconected, bought a aftermarket high torquer and never had starter probs again.
