what kind of transmission do i have? please help

i have a 1982 camaro sports couple. it has the 305 lg4 4bbl carb and was wondering what kind of transmission i have. all i know is that its a 3 speed. Ive been googling everything and cant find what im looking for. im just trying to see if its a th 200 or 350 or what. if anyone can help me determine or tell me how to find out by looking will be great. thanks in advance!

also, what is another way to see what type of engine is in it. i checked the vin and it has an h which is the lg4 but the guy i bought it from said its a 350. maybe someone dropped a 350 in it or maybe not. just want to be sure. thanks again

Try this site and match the pan contours to the pictures and ur set. Here are a few sites...next time try posting in the drivetrain section...

If it's the original 3-speed, then it's a TH200C.

The TH2004R is a totally different transmission, and is a four speed like the TH700R4. It came in grand nationals and the turbo T/A.

Check the casting number on the back of the driver's side head, then run the number in the following site:

thanks for all your help. it is the th200c. does the transmission have any type of potential or should i just swap it out. whats better the 700r4 vs the th200r4. what about a th 350?

The TH200C has a lockup torque converter, which will make it a little more efficient on the highway than a TH350. However, a TH700R4 has overdrive, which would help highway mileage even more. I would assume the 700R4 would be easier to swap in, since you could get a trans crossmember and driveshaft from a 700R4 car. I'm not sure if you could re-use the 200C driveshaft and crossmember.
