Getting ready for this season

When spring rolls around I have a ton of stuff to do and need some help. Fist i'll give some specs on my car and stuff that i've done and need help with.

I have a 383 stroker with flat top piston. Engine bored .60 over. Cam is a speed pro int/exh is 224 lift is 436. 64cc heads with 202/160 valves spring can handle up to a .510 lift. They are also stage 1 ported. Have and eldel brock performer rpm intake and a 750 cfm holley.

Things I need help with.
1. When in drive and going down the road starting at about 2500 rpm my fan is making a noise(flex fan). But when in park it makes no noise at 2500rpm.
2. When sitting at a light the car will get up to 205 temp. when driving it runs around 180.
3. This is a dump question but i'll ask before I spend around 100 buck. If I mash it from a stop when i hit around 70 mph i think (spedo is off) the car starts to bog down like its running out of gas. Is this because of the stock fuel pump.
4. I pulled #2 plug out awhile ago and the gap was closed like it got hit what would do that. Since i rechecked it and it was fine.

Also I dont think the motor is all there like it should be. Of course i only have the time at 8 degress advanced thats because a buddy of mine thought the noise was from the timing. So I have to turn the timing back up but not sure where to put it. Also i would like to check the valve lash with out the car running. Not sure how to do that i'll have to google it.

Need to get a new rear and drag tires. Here is the rear i was looking at getting.

I also replaced all the lower ball joints, springs, shocks and bushings. I have the spohn pan hard bar, control arms, trans cross member and tq arm set up.

Thanks for reading and any help you can provide.

Re: Getting ready for this season

  1. OK, get rid of the flex fan. Electric is the way to go.
  2. Sounds perfectly normal to me.
  3. No. Inadequate fuel delivery shows up after the car has been at WOT for long enough to drain the fuel bowls; usually, around the top of 2nd or just after shifting into 3rd. If the car bogs when mashed to the floor at a stop, the cure is driver education; teach your driver how to use some finesse.
  4. Probably was bumped, dropped, etc. as it was being put in. See my signature.
To set your timing: Forget your light and a bunch of "numbers". Instead, loosen the bolt. Turn the dist a small amount, noting how far you moved it. Better/worse? Better: do it again; worse: turn it back, plus a little farther. Better/worse? Better: repeat; worse, go back. Repeat until no further improvement occurs. This is not rocket science; it's just a car.

Seems like AHELLUVALOTA machinery to be putting in the rear, for as little motor as you've got. Nice piece and all that; but WAY WAY WAY overkill. IMO a GM 12-bolt is ENTIRELY enough for what you've got, and up to about twice as much for that matter; and will weigh ALOT less, use ALOT less HP, and be ALOT less trouble overall to install and make fit. Steve might be able to hook you up with one set up like you want, or you could get one straight from Moser or whoever.
