Motopsyco

Ok heres the deal, since my bird, an 89 305 tbi has been sitting and going to start driving it, I figured I'd replace the valve seals since its smoking alot now and wasnt much before it sat, well I took off the drivers side valve cover and noticed and extremely large amount od crud buildup in the valve cover and the head, so much I couldnt hardly tell were any bolts were. So I decided to go ahead and take the heads off get new gaskets and probably throw in an lt1 cam while I'm at it, things went pretty smoothly for a neglected 22 year old car until I got to the passengers side and took the valve cover off and oil spilled out everywere, the whole head and valves were submerged in oil. My question is: Were are the oil passages in the head and do you think they are just plugged with crud, or maybe a bigger issue, or would it be normal to have a head full of oil, the car isnt sitting completely level, but I havent ran it in about 4 days so it should have drained back to the pan right? Any ideas here are greatly appreciated, and hopefully I get some ideas before it gets dark out.
