Checking hood air cleaner clearance
Hey I recently replaced my aircleaner, and its fairly tall. It doesnt hit the hood, but it looks really close. Its one of those triangle, mesh ones that suck most of the air from the top. Im worried that the hood may be too close too it blocking air, and my poor lg4 cant afford to lose any more hp. How can I check how close it is?

Worry more about what the "triangle of death" is going to do to your engine.

What do you mean triangle of death? If you mean it doesnt get alot of air through, I was worried about that too. But it seems to pull like it normally does with it on.

At best the foam deteriorates when exposed to gasoline fumes (such as are found directly above a carburetor) and lets little chunks get sucked into the carb, although sometimes it's not chunks and the whole foam insert gets ingested at once. At worst it catches fire if the engine backfires.

Re: Checking hood air cleaner clearance
What should I get instead of it? I bought that because I just put on a edelbrock 600 carb and my old style round one didnt fit. Bottom hit the linkage, top nearly hit hood.

Re: Checking hood air cleaner clearance
i had one of those filters on my ford truck with the edelbrock carb and it cause the carb to backfire with in turn caught the filter on fire. luckily got it off there in time and yanked the carb and cleaned it like a son of a gun. i found chunks of the foam clogging my jets.
definitly would recomend taking it off asap
