305 to 400

hi everyone, i recently blew the head gasket on my 85 tuned port 305 trans am. naturally i went out and bought a 400 soon after, knowing my 305 will serve a much better purpus as a paperweight.

so heres my plan:
rebuild block
port 400 heads, tripple cut valve job
port lower intake for tpi
roller tip rockers
headers and "free flow" 3" exhaust
http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ode=CL12-366-4 <- this camshaft
leave stock 305 tune

now i have read on here that a 400 works well with a stock 305 tune, as long as the injectors are replaced from 19lb to 24 lb. but this was with a stock 400, since this will be slightly warmed over, should i use a 27 or 30 lb injector? oh, and i am also changing my transmission from the stock 700r4 to a world class t5. any suggestions or commentary welcome, just looking for good advice on this build.
thanks!

Re: 305 to 400

Exactly why would you invest that much time, effort and money and then not get it tuned?

Re: 305 to 400

The reason for a stock tune would be that i have the 85 ecm, which would have to be spliced over to an 86 or newer to be tuned, then i need a tuner and a dyno so im looking at at least a thousand more dollars to do all that. Not easy with a minumum wage job. I just need it to work, and then later i can work on making it work better, once i have some cash to throw around. The car was my daily driver

Re: 305 to 400

Calll Wongs performance (google it) bet it doesnt cost anywhere near that.

Youll smoke that new motor without a proper tune right off the bat.
He can get you pretty close without the dyno at least where youre safe.
