lost my keys question
Hey guys,
I've got one of the '92 Firebird convertibles that I have to sell because I'm unable to do the restoration work needed to bring the vehicle back to life. Unfortunately, I only had one pair of keys and some contractors who were working on the garage in my house lost the keys (actually, they made off with them never to give them back).
So, now I've got to eBay the vehicle but cannot put it into neutral via the gearshift without the keys in the ignition. Does anybody know of a way I can get the vehicle into neutral without the keys? I've got to make it so the vehicle can be put on a flatbed and shipped off to whoever buys it. And I've got precious little time and funds to do it.
Is it actually possible to get a new pair of keys this late in the lifecycle of this vehicle? Or do you guys think I have to the ignition replaced or something?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks,

Re: lost my keys question
Check with your local GM dealer, a lot of times they can cut keys by vin. You might still be able to do this. I work at Chrysler and i can cut a key for most cars back to the late 80's, sometimes even the early/mid 80's. I can also look up a car by vin and print out and entire option sheet for Chrysler/dodge/jeep back to 83. I know GM can't do that far back, but they may still be able to help.
Just call and give them the vin, see if they can bring up a key code. If so you're set. if not... well, replace the key cylinder or pull it out and get someone to cut a key to the tumblers inside. I've had to do that a few times for ppl.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll do that. Hate to give up the vehicle. I had even bought the Oakley sticker for the windshield just like was done in my sophomore year of highschool. Oh well, I'll still admire this car from afar as others enjoy it.
