Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

I need a new smog pump pulley.. When I turn it manually with the serpentine belt off, it makes a lot of noise.

I would rather buy one brand new, rather than get it from the junkyard or used on ebay.

The part number is GM 10055881. You can see they have plenty on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw...55881&_sacat=0

But I would like to get one new. O'Reilly's doesn't have it, neither does rockauto. There are some smog pump delete pulleys all over the Internet, but not stock replacements. I live in CA, so unfortunately I can't use a smog delete pulley. So do I have any options for buying a brand new smog pump pulley, or am I just gonna have to get a used one?

The pulley is probably fine. They RARELY go bad.

You need the pump, more likely.

Most of the time you have to re-use your old pulley when you change out the pump.

Not a lot of sense in insisting on "new"; they're sorta disposable, like brake shoes. Cheeep too. Just get one at the parts store and be done with it, save up "new" for something where it will actually make a difference.

Well it doesn't make any noise other than when I spin the pulley, so I was hoping it's just the pulley. But I have been having a weird vacuum leak coming from the AIR tubes. I had to use hose clamps in a spot where most of our cars don't need hose clamps. (here's my thread about it: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...um-system.html)

How do I know if it's the pulley or the pump?

I can't just get the pulley, because I can only find them used on ebay. I would like to fix the car ASAP. I'll probably try getting the pump at OReilly's tomorrow, just to see if it fixes it. If it's the pully though, where can I get that brand new? I can't find it online.

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

The pulley can't possibly make any noise.

It's just a flat round piece of metal, no moving parts. About like a dinner plate except made of steel.

Don't worry about it, you don't need one unless yours is bent or otherwise damaged, which you'd be able to see, if it was.

The most likely reason for having to use clamps on part of the AIR system, is that one of the check valves is bad, and there's exhaust backing up into it.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-ik28fZ9gsog

It's supposed to be a one-way deal, where air gets forced by that pump into the exhaust through the check valves, but the valves only let it go the one way, and not the exhaust come back the other way. Might want to take a good look at those while changing out the pump, make sure no exhaust is getting where it's not supposed to.

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

So why is it making noise when I spin the air/smog pump pulley then? The air/smog pump is bad?

Thanks I will try replacing the Air Check Valve before the Air Pump, but where is the air check valve located? And how can I check if its messed up? I dont think exhaust is getting where it shouldnt, because the air just feels less pressurized.

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

Also are both of the check valves the same? I see two check valves.. One goes to the exhaust manifolds and the other one has a hose that goes towards the firewall behind the throttle body, so Im assuming that one goes to the cat. Anyway heres the picture of them. Please tell me which valve is which. (See one is closer to the transmission fluid dipstick, the other one is closer to the engine oil dipstick.)

Also I got a new smog pump, took off the two bolts that connect the hose to the back of it, but I cant find any other bolts holding it, but it wont budge. The instructions that came with the smog pump said it has adjustment or pivot bolts, and I cant find them. How do I finish removing the old smog pump?

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

I have a 92 RS with a 305 TBI, 5.0L.. but thanks, the diagram looks pretty similar. Do you have the legend for it? Where can I get a shop manual for my car? I'm tired of my crappy Chilton's manual.

I think I can take the smog pump out now.. but I still don't know which Check Valve is that Air Check Valve I bought. (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-ik28fZ9gsog) I think it's the one on the bottom that goes to the exhaust manifolds, closer to the oil dipstick.

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

The check valves are labeled number 3 in the picture. They are installed on the air pipes on the exhaust manifolds. Helm makes the factory service manuals.

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

Ok thanks. Cant seem to get the smog pump off tho.. I dont see any of those bolts except 18 and 11/13/14. All that 5-10, i cant figure out where it is. I also cant seem to get the pulley bolts off. How am supposed to hold the pulley still.. I guess Im not strong enough. I think if I get the pulley off I can get the rest off

Re: Where can you get a brand new smog pump pulley?

I tried to loosen the pulley with the belt on, and its still hard for me to remove the bolts. The belt just moves along the pulley now, instead of the pulley spinning. Any suggestions? Those bolts are not budging. Also I need a bigger crescent wrench for the check valves, because those aint budging either

Also, how do I check the Check Valves? I only bought one, and now I realize there is 3. One for both exhaust manifolds, and one for the cat. How do I check which ones are working? You just blow air through and make sure it only goes one way, right? My vacuum leak was probably caused by a bad Check Valve and not a bad Air/Smog Pump.
