T56 why....

So I want a manual transmission behind my ls swap. That being said I was going to use a t5 till I found out the headache that was going to be. Soooo I am trying to find a t56 but its not going so good... Hawks wants 1500 for standalone and 2500 for the kit. I also found a guy who sells rebuilt ones for 2000 but he wants a core. I guess my question is where do I find one for cheaper? Ps: I have also called around to every single junkyard in 200 miles and none of them have one and im in tn

Re: T56 why....

Check craiglists for a broken one. They're expensive because they're in high demand still.

Re: T56 why....

You're probably not going to find one for cheaper unless it's blown up (MORE money) or you know someone in the salvage business. I sold mine in 24 hours for going rate and we didn't even haggle. Just FINDING a good used one is difficult enough because so many people are hard on these transmissions and they generally have issues at this point.

I personally know someone who has a good one (my brother in law) but it's because he just totalled his WS6 last week. He's only trying to sell the whole car, though.

that's your best bet, honestly. It's actually cheaper if you do that now as opposed to buying a used unit and pumping money into a rebuild.

Re: T56 why....

Seems like the LS T56's are a lot more expensive and hard to find than the LT T56's. Is it at that point where it's cheaper to spend the $600 to convert an older LTx T56 to an LS spec one yet? And then you still need to get the bellhousing and hydros etc.

Re: T56 why....

Try looking for a whole car. Part the rest of it out.

Try the classified forums at LS1tech.com, that'll probably be your best bet. Those guys are always parting out fourthgens.
