Auto to T5 Swap Won't Start Help

The car is a 1991 Z28 350, Auto, coupe. Car is stock other than headers, smog legal.

Just finished a complete auto to T5 swap, donor car was a 1991 Pontiac Firebird Formula with a 305 TPI and the T5. The Pontiac Firebird was running before taking it apart and so was the 1991 Z28.

After all that work, the Z28 won't start,,,,,, what a pain in the a$$. After all that work, nothing, the radio turns on, everything else turns on except for the car, it won't turn over. As for as all I have read, yellow / purple wires from the clutch pedal to to the yellow / purple that goes to the auto shifter, neutral safety switch right??? The transmission has two plugs, one fit (believe it's the speed sensor??) and the other doesn't fit but thought that those wires would only help you with back up lights, correct? I left those alone for now.

The car turned on before I did the swap,,. Suggestions on trouble shooting would be appreciated.

If it won't turn over then it's probably the "yellow/purple wires ". Is it connected to the switch on clutch pedal and is the switch adjusted properly (on my 85 you can adjust it don't know about 91)?
You can also use a wire or something and connect the yellow/purple wires together to test. The starter should turn over when you do that (when you turn the key).

Found the problem,, there were two wires not connected under the dash. These wires were cut when sometime in the past it had an aftermarket alarm.

The clutch engages as soon as you let to of the clutch and reverse grinds,. At least it turns on now.

Re: Auto to T5 Swap Won't Start Help

I have another question on the swap, I bought a clutch master slave cylinder, Sachs SPH002. The clutch engages at the very bottom and reverse scratches into gear. I have a few things to check. Is this the proper part for this swap? I noticed the bracket that protects the part at the transmission does not fit, the new part I bought is an inch longer than the old one. I'll post a picture of the part next.

On the tip of the part that touches the fork to push it, there is a rubber or plastic piece, is that suppose to be there? There is also a small piece of metal that goes between the tip mentioned and the fork. I suppose that goes there,,,,? I didn't take the donor car apart. I was thinking this might be causing the clutch not to engage all the way. I'll post pictures later of the parts and what they look like at the fork.

The clutch installed is just a regular kit from autozone. Installed with no problems, everything teem to fit just fine.

Re: Auto to T5 Swap Won't Start Help

Here are the pics I have of the slave,, see the black plastic piece at the tip and the metal piece in front of it? Is that the way they go?

This morning I took the transmission out and found the fork was not set right, the hinges were hanging over the bearing instead of in the bearing. Turned on the car and the clutch is now releasing in the middle and it no longer grinds going into reverse, which is great. That worked out. I'm missing the exhaust bracket that attaches to the tranny; I'm suppose to get it this weekend. I haven't attempted to drive it because of that.

Somewhere I read that on these swaps, the car / ECM should be left to think it's in neutral. I don't remember if when I took the automatic trans out I left it in neutral. Is that going to be a problem if I didn't leave it in neutral?

Re: Auto to T5 Swap Won't Start Help

I'm in a bit of a rush ATM so I didn't read any of the posts, so forgive me if Im mentioning someone has perviously stated or somthing slightly off topic. I just thought I would mention that I had an automatic converted to a T5 and Inside the Center console connected to the automatics shifter lever is a small semi-cirular electrical component. For the car to start this must be in park, or with the tab all the way toward the front of the car. You can eliminate this component by wiring the "Park" wire directly to the "Starter Safety Switch" wire (the one leaving the switch).

Hope this helps
