Car: 1984 Firebird (89 Formula Clone)
Engine: 357
Transmission: m29 T56
Axle/Gears: 3.27 9 bolt Borg Warner.
Running issue, 357 sbc.
I have a 89 formula, 71 350 block .040 over, alum 2.02/1.60's with a edelbrock 7102 488/510 cam with 1.6 roller rockers.
I had the car running like a champ a few months ago, but she wont start now. It sat for 1 week came out to it not start-able. I discovered bad intake gaskets and a possible warped intake, upgraded to an air gap, new gaskets and just relashed my valves. Still having this issue of backfire out of the carb. Any ideas?
I'm at a wall and am very frustrated. Ask away if i did not provide enough detail.
Thanks guys.

What sort of backfire out the carb? Occasional, rhythmic, ....?
When you adjusted the valves, did any of them seem to take more adjusting than any others? If so, might be a great time to get rid of that crappy cam.
You sure the dist is installed on the correct instance of #1 TDC? (end of compression & beginning of power strokes, as opposed to end of exh and beginning of int strokes)
Compression test?
Exactly what happened that made it quit running?
All we can do based on what you've told about it so far, is guess. Maybe it's this, maybe it's that. Not enough hard information to attack it logically and make a definite diagnosis.

Re: Running issue, 357 sbc.
1. Anytime you hold at a single RPM, running through rpm's was fine.
2. No valves seemed fine to adjustments
3. Yes i stabbed it at TDC. ( i had a friend put his finger over #1 and so forth )
4. Compression is 160 on all.
5. I drove the car once, parked it a week ( this is a completely fresh motor right after break in ), came out a week later and it wouldn't start, i half throttle and it would run but barely, id have to keep it alive with the gas pedal.
when the car ran good: the rockers were pretty loose, since i have adjusted them properly, put a new intake, with new gaskets, rebuilt the HEI dist top to bottom. New fuel pump as the old one died, cleaned the carb out. I have test known working carbs/dist's too.
Kindof stumped. Unless somehow my chain skipped a tooth? or something idk.

As of right now, it wants to fire but shoots up a fireball out of the carb.

You might want to double check that your plug wires are on the correct plugs.
Did you bother to put a timing light on it?
