is there any out that are reliable enough for street use? i know they all say "for drag racing only" why is this? is it not "street" legal to run a electric pump? im not to worried about being legal...to late for that anyways...

Electric motors fail. Street engines are built to last many thousands of miles and many hours of operation. Electric motors especially for water pumps will never last that long. Heater fans usually don't even last that long and they're not on constantly. If your electric pump failed on a street engine you would be stuck somewhere with no way to fix it. A belt driven pump is more reliable.

A race car isn't high milage and doesn't see very much time actually running. The electric pump is more suited for this type of engine. It's also used to cool the engine down between rounds by turning the pump and electric fans on while sitting in the pits.

Switching to an electric water pump may give you an extra 5 HP. There's more reliable ways to get 5 HP in a street car.

The Meziere pumps ( http://www.meziere.com ) were supposed to be some of the longest hour electric water pumps on the market a few years ago- but be prepared to spend over $300 for one.

Where do you think the electricity to power the pump will come
from?.....dah da alternator, good answer. no power advantage
here. Even the best one on the market won't last in continuous
street use to pay for it self. If you think your belt driven water pump is costing you too much power, change the pulley ratio.
Unless you rev your motor 6500 rpm or more, it isn't.
