question about oil leak
ok i have a oil leak in my 305 TBI...it only leaks while the car is running and right after i shut it off. after about 5 min it stops. it isnt leaking while the car sits over night. i replaced the driver side valve cover gasket but wasnt able to get to the other because i still have my AIR stuff hooked up. well i can feel oil behind the heads and on the back of the motor and there is some oil around the base of the ditributer. you think its the intake or the distributer gasket? i have a feeling its the intake but i dont know. if it was a rear main seal would there be oil that high on the engine?

I don't think it is the rear main seal. If it was leaking you would have oil dripping out around the transmission. It could be either the distributor or intake gaskets. It could also be the oil pressure switch. It is mounted at the back of the intake. Check your PCV valve. If it isn't venting pressure from inside the engine, the pressure can force the oil out thru a gasket. Let me know what you find. Have a good one.

the PVC valve is brand new....it all started after i stuck a k&n breather on there...i rigged it tho because it was a clamp on type and i cut the tube and stuck it down in it. well i thought that could be the problem so i took it off and stuck the stock one on...same result. im thinking its the intake so soon as it warms up ill be fixing that

Definatly check the other vavle cover... i had to do both of mine (it took a good two hours). You can get around the pipes by just bending them outta the way, thats what i did, anyhow. The control box crap isnt to hard to remove, either. Just unbolt it from teh air pump and pull it outta the way. The gaskets degrade to a powdery crud where teh exaust manifold is b/c of the heat and it just leaks like mad after a while.

i have a breather filter in there now. i dont have the control box, smog pump, or that other crap there anymore just the air hookups because i havent got my headers in yet. i just couldnt get to the last valve cover bolt in the back ill try that today when i get outta school. also it is leaking out around the tranny but i think its coming from the top somewhere and running down the bellhousing im saw oil on my distributer so im pretty sure its the intake or distributer gasket. do i need to buy a set of intake screws? or can i reuse the old ones. also do i need a torque wrench?
