lol yeah I imagine he's having computer problems. That cam is too big.

Look for a zz4 takeoff cam. They can be found really cheap for a roller..and would make a great all around cam in a 305.

i'd recomend comp cams x4258hr. in your 305 it'll give you a decent power band and be somewhat noticable at idle.

I'm using that cam, without any computer problems at all (cc carb setup).

1st, my idle isn't lopey at all. 2nd, "lopey idle" and "computer-friendly" are practically mutually exclusive. Who wants a lopey idle? I'll take smooth idle with the growl at the top end any day (lopey idles don't impress chicks, if that's your objective).

I used the Crane cam because I had to stick with a flat-tappet block. My original plans included an LB9 roller block and ZZ4 take-off cam, but I found out in prepping the block that it had a couple of cracks in the lifter valley. I chose the Crane cam for my LG4 engine because it was the closest I found to the ZZ4 specs (208/221 duration @ .050, .474/.510 lift, 112 LSA). I wouldn't use a ZZ4 cam with unmodified stock heads, though - too much lift on the exhaust.

If he's having computer problems, I suspect improper implementation, not a fundimental problem with the Compucam. I don't have first-hand experience with TBI, but I haven't heard anything that makes me think issues like this can't be worked out with minimal effort.

yeah, you can but if you do your going to lose power. chosing a cam isn't as simple as big and little or lumpy and small. picking one with the wrong specs can cause a power loss that will show up on a dyno and in the car will be a terrible driver compared to the correct cam.

FIRST, do yourself a favour and forget about wanting a lopey idle or a lumpy idle. No one with an ounce of brains on this board is going to help you. The people you want to talk to here are the SERIOUS engine builders who know how to make torque and horsepower, NOT the juveniles who think a lumpy idle is "cool."

If after going through the correct process of cam selection your engine has a bit of a lope to it, so be it. But that is never to be your sole objective. Capiche?

Good.

Listern to 57kid, he knows of what he speaks.

Also, a really good cam for a non-roller block carbed 305 is the Comp Cams XE256. It's the one they recommend for the street.
