lt1 vs. aftermarket

hey guys i am lookin to get the best possible cam for my car and i hear alot about the lt1 cam. i am not leanin toward it mainly because it is a stock cam and i wunt a performance car. i am not worried about the price cause if i pull my engine apart i'm not goin to wunt to do it again to swap in another cam. my question to u is wut do u think is a better cam for a 305 with wuts in my sig and an edelbrock intake. the lt1 cam 201/208 dur. @50 447/459 lift 116 lobe sep. or the comp cams 206/210 dur. @50 450/480 lift 112 lobe sep. keep in mind i am just gonan have the intake and full exhaust right now but i am lookin to get the s/t torqour 305 heads later. also if any1 has any other cam in there 305 let me know wut it is and how u liked it. oh yea it needs to be a roller. thanks so much for any input you have

I think the minute differances between cheap factory roller cams(LT1, LT4, Hot LT4, ZZ4.....) and a aftermarket one is over most of our heads over here so its off to general tech for you. For a 305 i can't imagine $200 extra for an aftermarket hydraulic roller cam would be worth it.

Send a message via AIM to NJ SPEEDER
if you want something bigger you may want to look into the stock LT4 cam. they are about $180 through scoggins-dickey ( www.sdpc2000.com )
don't get fooled by the word "stock". with a 305 a stock cam from a later LT series 350 is about as good as it gets without spending a fortune to maybe see a few more ponies.

Where is this stock LT4 cam for $180 on the link you poseted? I tried to order an LT4 cam a while ago from my dealer. This cam is no where to be found. There is no availability on them. I looked on your site and I found the cam part # 12551142. But not for $180?

He's talking about the lt4 HOT cam, its 175.50 from scoggin dickey, or 168 and change from gmpartsdirect.com (something like that anyway been a while since I've been to their site. So go to scoggindickey and lock for the HOT cam, not lt4, cause that's how it'll come up.

I understand that the Hot Cam is different. But in the post he said "stock LT4 cam" there is a difference I know. Just trying to clarify.

LT1 cams are awesome in TBI cars. They are about as much lift as you can run on stock heads without machine work. Too much lift makes ugly mess. Been there done that. The LT4 cams also require 1.6 rockers to get advertised lift.

IROC steering box and front chassis support to make the twisties more fun.

I have run the LT4 in my LO3 with and without the 1.6 rollers and it works well both ways.

For what its worth the LT4 stock cam is not much better than the .450--.460 lift LT1 cam which can be bought cheap used.

When I purchased mine I did not realize this. The LT4 stock cam was $138 from Pace when I got it. 2 years ago.

And the lift with the LT1 with 1.6 rockers would be more than the LT4
