a 96' to 98' Cobra hitting mid 13s!?! riiiight. they tried to up the hp in 99 and failed, then got it right in 2001, thats why theyre faster than their slower 96'-98' counterparts. these newer Cobras go mid 13s, the older ones could only hit 13s with a very experienced driver. but most of their drivers are 17 and cant get out of the 14s. ask any Mustang owner worth his Ford emblem and theyll tell you the same thing

Then they recalled all the Cobra's and if you cobra didn't make 280rwhp then they had to keep fixing it until it did. In 2001 it was the same car as in 99. So to answer what you said....no, you couldn't beat a 96-01 Cobra. Sorry, try again. They pull a mid 13 stock. And give it gears and it pulls a low 13.
http://caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddri...stang&class=22

Well, not everything you say is BS. Check out this article. The newest cobra makes 272rwhp, which as you said is up from the '96-98 cobras. They ARE good for mid 13's stock...if well driven. The problem comes in launching with thier IRS. Half shafts bust like toothpics. Most of the fast cobras have a regular 8.8" axle swapped in place of the IRS.

The reason these kill stories come up...is that the motor is very peaky. They are very difficult to launch well, even without the IRS screwing things up more. They need a very good driver to reach their top numbers, and on the street they have traction problems. Street racing is much different than racing at a prepped track.

As a side note, the '96-98 cobras are pretty slow by comparison. When the '98 was stock I raced a '97 cobra, with off road h-pipe, exhaust, centerforce, drag radials, and 4.30 gears. I won by over 4 lengths....because of the launch mostly. From a roll things were much more even.

Okay Monkie, just a little test, what exactly did they "fix" on your car, what made it different from the 2001. And they did not keep "fixing" it until they saw 280 rwhp, they just fixed it and gave you embroidered seats! And the majority od 96-98 Cobras didn't go 13s and with his trap speed, he would walk on most stock Cobras, including yours when it was stock!

They changed the intake and exhaust. Thats the point...there is no difference in the 99 and 01. I have heard that they got rid of some wheel hop for 01 but I have never heard of proof of that. And if you dynoed your car and it made less than 280rwhp then you had the option of taking it back to your dealer and having them do the "fix" again. And what embroidered seats are you talking about? And I don't care if he could walk over my Cobra when it was stock or not...ITS NOT STOCK NOW.

So basically the 01s put down 270 rwhp and if you owned a 99 and it put down the same numbers they take it back, and MAKE it get more power! What do they do, once they open up the exhaust and do the intake, they can't give you more power magically!

And actually the lower intake, and maybe the upper, on the 2001 is manufactured by a different company because of this problem! It doesn't matter here, because if you really had a 1999 Cobra at 17 you wouldn't need to prove anything online, face it kid, the guys on the Mustang board don't like you, why should guys on an Fbody board!

Actually son the 01s put down about 280-290rwhp. What do you want, me to call SVT and ask how the improve the hp? I didn't get mine recalled, it had already had the fix done. Ok, I don't own a 99 Cobra. w/e, how is it over in jealousy land?

I plan to run low 12's on motor and high 11's on juice. I got a 94 Caprice with a LT1 and I will use that motor to stroke it to a 383 with all forged internals and some aftermarket heads and a big *** cam. I am going to port the intake and put on some SLP 1 3/4 headers and high flow cat through the Loudmouth exhaust. Then some 3.73's, aluminum driveshaft, and a WS-6 style hood with Ram Air. For suspention I will have Spohn LCA's, Panhard, Torque Arm, Hotchkis STB, and ALL Poly bushings. And what I will probably do real soon is add a Nitrous Express Kit with a 100 shot for now, then when I get the motor, maybe a 250 shot. I will probably end up breaking the tranny or rear end. All this stuff is in no particular order, I just wanna do one thing at a time a build everything the right way.:hail:
