86 IROC vs. 302 Ranger
yesterday i was pulling onto the local cruise road, about 12 in the afternoon, and i look across the street and there is a ford ranger with a 302 that runs around talking smack, (thinks his truck is the fastest thing out there) well when i pull out i give it a few nice revs, and i see him and his buddy start laughing, so i start driving down the road and he flies upbehind me, he pulls into the lane next to me and floors it at my qaurter i let him get even with me then i floored it, we went from about 20-50 speed limit is 35, when i floored it i stayed right were i was when i floored it, i did note that i started pulling slightly, had we been able to run it up to 80 i would have taken him, i had barely started to get into the powerband in 2nd, so yeah it was fun, i was proud of my little 305 , the two guys wouldnt even look at me anymore, haha, looks like someone was embarrassed, i wish i could have told him he got beat by a lowly 305. lol, what do you guys think?

Nice kill, but it depends on what was done to the truck. If it is a 2bbl 302 from the late 60s, then it would be slow as death. If it was a late model FI 302 with heads, cam and intake it would hall a$$! Anyway you shut him up for a while, so good job!

Also depends on how the truck launches as well. Most smaller trucks if setup right with a V8, will beat mosr V8 cars. That is, if the motor and suspension is setup correctly.

The only problem I tend to see with people putting SB into their small pick ups is they leave their rear suspension pretty much OEM. When the car goes the stock stuff twists under the torque. Trucks usually have leaf spring suspesion in the back which is know for twisting up under torque. Also the back end is light so they tires can very easily loose ground if no weight is added. It will bounce and lose ground. Setup and traction is everything. If you screw up on one of these you will be slow no matter how big of an engine you have under the hood.

I don't mind beefed up offroad trucks. I just don't fancy the small sport trucks. Some trucks can be made into good performance trucks though. I don't think you would mind taking the keys to a Lightning would you

I have a 91 sonoma.IT is 4wd though.I haven't done anything to it yet.But I do have another 4.3 getting ready for the machine shop where is it getting bored and all that stuff.I am doing the heads myself.Getting all the casting flaws out of them and opening them up a little,Along with an edelbrock cam, intake and chip.
Should run alright.
I have talked to alot of guys that have put 350's into s10's.One guy put a 350 into a regular s-10 shortbed and said no matter what with 60 sereis back tires He couldn't hook.He eventaully put a 3.1 camaro motor in it.HE said his buddy put a fuel cell over his rear tires And it helped. He said it is hard to get them to hook decently. Most trucks are like this though.
And yes 302 rangers can run with 5.0 stang motors in them. There is one around here with a 5.0 out out of a 88 mustang and it freakin hauls.I have saw it beat a 4th gen z-28.Like a 94ish.
