i say, "have not a clue, just fast", we both laugh, he says that my car scared them when i went by them at about 120 or higher at WOT. so i liked that.
Sounds like an iffy time and place to do that...i dont have a prob with doing those speeds when there is absolutely no1 around..but when your flying past people that doesnt sound like a very good idea to me

In my old 3rdgen, a 1991 L98 Z. I ran a 1992 305 Z28 up to 130ish and shut down. I barley beat him, it was a fast 305.

In my 1998 Z, i ran a 1995 firebird with a LS1 motor swap with a 150shot up to 155(i just ran outta speedo). I was shaking for an hour after that run and it was the best one i ever had... He pulled up to 90, then i passed and we pulled even at 120ish and i was a few feet ahead noseing him out till we shut down..

Well it wasn't really a race, but me and squeeks83 took the freeway (509) and we both punched it. I keept up with him most of the way until i passed a semi doing about 110mph and hit a small pothole and the car got a tad squirly so i let off and cruised at 100mph till i exited.
I went back today (2-13-03) after school and was curious how fast i could actually go. I noticed there was no traffic and jumped on and punched it. I dont know exatly how fast i was going but the needle was way past 140mph. I would guess it was somewhere around 150? Not really sure but it was quit a bit past 140mph.

My speed

One night coming back from a friends house at like 11:30 we hit the open part of the freeway. i floored it just to see how fast i could go without pussying out to pass my friend. Needless to say i hit 162 +or- 3, when i passed him then i saw a slow turn coming up and decided to lay off. My friend in the car said everything in the entire car was shaking, i guess i got tunnel vision and didnt feel anything. no other cars were around except my friend george in his prelude. He thought my car would only go 90 and he pushed his to 120. As i saw this i hit mine and passed hit at 160 and he sh** himself. yeah that wasnt safe at all, mostly because i had no tread whatsover on my Firehawk svx's. If i lost it, dayum that would have hurt

Iv hit the needle at 140km and stayed there for about 15seconds afterward. Is there anyway just to take off the needle so it will go past 140km on my speedometer?

all you have to do is splice a toggle switch into your VSS, when the engine cuts out, shut it off and hammer down....your speedo wont work when you shut it off, but you can go faster

my obsession with my dad's corvette - and nighttime racing stupidity

I raced a Z28 at night once that got a huge jump on me. It took me to 165 to get 3 lengths on him in my dad's 1999 corvette. I did this after he died, and was beyond the point of caring for safety. I'm glad I didn't get myself killed that night.

hey i said it before and i'll say it again, as long as you arent endangering anyone else, theres nothing stupid about it.....people go fast because its a thrill....just like sky diving or bungee jumping.

if it was safe and totally sane, who would wanna do it anyways? lol

i wanted to go faster than 160 or so, but the steering got about as usless as t*ts on a bull...so i had to back out

115!!!!! ON A HONDA ACCORD!! trying to catch up to a friend cuz he didn't know we had to make a turn up ahead.
1st gear went to 23 mph. second gear went til 61 mph. man 3rd gear was screaming and redlining at 92 mph then I had to shift to 4th which eventually got to 115 then I had to brake cuz I passed they guy way too fast..... and I got in front and took the turn nicely.... and even through all that he STILL missed the turn and kept going straight.... but it was worth it.

According to Smokemup.com's calculator I hit 126 while racing one of the most hot rodded Honda's I've ever seen down I-94 in Kalamazoo, MI. That guy killed me on top end. At least he was nice when I got to talk to him. One of the few truly nice ricers I've ever seen. That's probably the fifth time I've topped out while racing
Later on that year I swapped out for the Edelbrock cam in my sig and hit about 5700 rpm in third which is like 130. She was still pulling hard, but that's enough redline for me.
I just bought a 145 speedo, and I'm hoping to get one of those things that'll allow me to shift into OD at WOT this year. Then we'll see what she can really do.

Well, ive had the 15th Anniversary up to 4300 in 5th gear and it was still pulling with 3.73's. Its an L-69/5-speed 84 Trans Am. Quite a rush. Was still pulling a little too, as the mighty Quadrajet was singing its tune.

The fastest I have ever gone was one summer coming back home following my friend in his 97 SS DRM motorsports car and we decided to punch it. He was the type that didn't let off till the other guy did and I hated losing. He said that I let off when his speedo read about 160. I was mabey a car length behind him. I had to let off because about 155 my windows popped out. It was wierd like vacumn or something. I broke my speedo in a race when I was in downtown dallas with a Viper. We were doing about 145.

up to 4300 in 5th gear and it was still pulling with 3.73's. Its an L-69/5-speed 84 Trans Am. Quite a rush. Was still pulling a little too, as the mighty Quadrajet was singing its tune.
i love the l69 it loves to haul @$$ down the freeway

on my V6 i hit like 130 before... i'm sure of it...
i raced a TBI and took him at 110
a GTA(bad condition) took him over the 120 area...
i only mark 120
now i bet you all are like... i thought those V6s only are limited to 118... if they can even hit it...
i dunno
i made so many top speed runs that eventually it stopped working
...
there was a point that i couldn't hit over 105... then 107... then 110... the it made it to 113... back down to 110... then one day... out of nowhere.... i hit 120... ever since that... i can hit over 120...
i know i can hit like 130 because i was next to a prelude and hit clocked in at 130 when we finally stopped...

so i'm just as suprised as any of you that my v6 can hit 130... i thought only a 4cyl or 8cyl... a jap 6 can hit it...

In a race, 130ish, the other night against a friend in a '95 GT,we were way past the quarter though. The fastest I ever drove was in high school one time, I was really drunk and my buddy kept egging me on to see what it would do. So we hit the top side of 150. It was one of the stupidest things I have done, besides being intoxicated I was running on old bias ply M50/14's, in an '82 Berlinnetta with 195/60R15's on front. I am still hear to talk about it though.

I thought the thread was top speed race in a thirdgen, I guess I read it wrong.
My top speeds that I have gone are:
160mph in a 95 Supra TT, car was still pulling too. Racing the 96 LT1.
150mph in a 99 SS, stock 3.42 gears, wasn't pulling anymore so I shut down. Racing the 95 Supra. I won since the Supra had boost problems, stuck between 5-10psi.
160mph in a 96 LT1 T/A, 4.10 gears, no real pull after 155mph. Racing the 99 SS. I won this one too.

These are the cars,
