1992 Firebird vs 1999 Alero GLS

The 99 Alero is a 3.4SFI
Stock 170hp 190tq

The Alero car has a catback system.

The 92 Firebird is a 305TBI
Stock 170hp 255tq

Assuming the TBI car has a stick and decent driver, who wins? I think it's going to be interesting (not my car, but I am following event via Alero message boards)

I'm gonna go with the 305 tbi. Torque makes a lot of difference!

The Alero is probably a low 16 second car. Quick enough to give the Firebird a good run.

I'm going to give it to the Alero. I'm pretty sure they're lower weight so that makes up for the torque problem, and come on, tbi? Go ahead and run him and prove me wrong!

My friend did this race, twice - dead even the first time from light to light - won the second time from about third gear and on, not by much. Same cars, same transmissions as stated, everything. Should be good.

The Alero GLS is actually mechanically identical to a Grand AM GT.
Minus the lousy ram air (5hp).

Transmission is the 4t45e... not a 700R4.

A 1992 Camaro Coupe weighs only about 100 pounds heavier than the 1999 Alero GLS.

It's going to be close - wanted secondary opinions tho.
Ill let you guys know when I find out.

I actually like the looks of an Alero.

Watch out for the Alero!!

A friend of mine had one, a black 99. He tore apart my formula 350 from a stoplight...

...this was also when
A) He punched it before the GREEN, once it hit green I hit it from idle.
B) I had no clue we were racing, he always revs his car at stoplights, so that act was normal.
C) the 350 did not have all 8 injectors working properly, the timing was off, idle was not correct, and ignition was not working very well....it was in need of a tuneup...but the oil was fresh!!
