Raced a 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier Z22... And a Dodge Neon!

Okay, I have a 1989 Pontiac Firebird, 2.8L V6, automatic transmission, all stock and original with 114 800 miles... I stop at a light and a blue 1995 Chevrolet Cavalier Z22 come next to me. He trow a couple of revs at me so I reply back. When the light goes green, I doesn't spin at all and he was spinning like crazy. It was a pretty close race, we raced until about 90mph, the farther he wen't was to the nose of my bird... But I still lost. What a shame... His car was stock with a manual tranny. Just right after that, we raced against a Dodge Neon with an automatic transmission. Me Vs Cavalier Vs Neon, it was an awesome race, the Cavalier won, but I won over the Neon too, so two GM winning against a Dodge isn't bad at all, he didn't wanted to race again after at the next light... The people in the Neon were all young people of about 16-17 years old... They were saying too me "woa, what is this car, it looks powerfull"... Man, I think I will go jump off a cliff, the young these days doesn't even recognise our mighty Firebird emblem... Well, I'm only 21 but they seems from another generation.

Nope, a normal Z22, 2 doors... The guy say it's not the original motor but it's a 96 2.2L Pontiac Sunfire motor, should be the same as the original one he had...

theres no such thing as a "Z22"

Cavalier = Z24
Baretta = Z26
Camaro = Z28
Lumina = Z34
Trucks = Z71

thats it. there IS a 2.2L engine, but Chevy never made a decal to designate it on the Cavaliers

Maybe it's the GM dealer here that put these stickers on the cars. Well, it was a base Cavalier *** damn.

don't get upset, I am sure nobody has heard of a "z22." When u say a "Z" something and cavalier behind it, we all figure its a z24.

I had a 1995 cavy and what you raced was a 2.2 multi port TBI car. There was never a Z22 but was a Z24. A Z24 would have worked you over pretty good but the base cavys would be right up your alley like you mentioned. Good race.

I myself owned a Cavalier that had the Z22 badges... I think it's really a dealer thing... If only I had a scanner, I could show you a photo of the car I had. I only have a cheap *** digital camera, taking a pic of the pic doesn't look good at all. Well, anyway, the subject of this tread is not the Z22

Okay, tried to take a pic with my 20$ digital cam of the photo I had of of my supposed Z22... On the right side, their is a Z22 sticker. It was a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier "Z22-R" like the dealer and the TV commercial liked to call it here. It was a base Cavalier with some of the look of the Z24. Pretty weird. Sorry for my bad english, I speak french normally

Oh yeah you do live in canada, so maybe there was a z22 there, here in town in the early 90's there was a cavalier called teh V22, and it was a dealer add-on, so maybe that is what the deal is with this cavalier.

There is a Z22 in Canada on the 95-97 Cavaliers (not sure about the years). It consisted of Z22 embroidered seats, side skirts with Z22 moulded in and that's about it. Otherwise it's the same as a base Cavalier. The RPO Z22 could possibly be an appearance package.

I haven't posted to confuse you all, I was just posting about a great street race... But, like I said, I myself owned a 2002 "Z22-R", the pic is not that good, but you can see it I think. The car is a base Cavalier with ground effects and stuff like that.

I guess you guys never heard of our Canadian Pontiac 'vette in the 70's & 80s. The mighty Acadian! We get all the cool cars up here lol. The z22 (that's zed22 to us btw ) was a 2 door base model cavy since about '92

It had the regular 2.2L, I'm pretty sure it's the same car as in the USA but they called it a Z22-R here in 2002. Thanks for the infos, will probably clear up the confusion. Maybe the topic will go toward the race now and not the cars Thansk to you

Well I have picked up on a few other posts that it was a canadian thing built of a base model. Gm does some wierd things with make-shift appearance stuff.
