Good luck finding out what you got. LOL It sucks that you bought the car like that and have to find out whats in it but thats part of the fun. My guess is you got close to 250-300 hp.

thank you very much. well. out of those. would it be easyer to tell if i would win. it's a 4 bolt main. thats what i know for sure. the guy told me and he gave me a recipt form the place who rebuilt it. it said sbc 350 4 bolt main. 1200 bucks. i'm giving up for tonight. i got school in the moring thanks alot, i really apreciate it
Dude, you have a 350 4 bolt main (most likely out of a truck or Vette) and a 5 speed....and you are worrying if a Civic can take you? You should be guessing at how many cars you'll put on him lol. I only have an LO3 and I only get worried when the Honda has a turbo.....their saving grace
Oh yeah, I spent 25 dollars on my ACCEL plugs....next time Im gonna get some good Delcos though, not sure if these plugs make any kind of differance....I do know they are easy to find in the dark, glowin yellow

wow now im interested in finding what engine this guys got. I hate wannabe ricers like this Si guy. Sounds like hes the kinda guy id run into saying stuff like "nice firebird" (to me) "thanks" "so watcha got in your honda?" "1000 hp." "oh really...so what kinda suspension you have that can support that power" "uhh its bolted right to the frame"
I just love guys that know their cars!
Doesn't really matter if his 350 was out of a Camaro or not. Other than the LT1 and the early L82 engines, they are all the same basic smogger 170hp wonders. My 350 is from a '79 Z28, and its the same as anything you'd find in a Corvette, truck, Caprice....
And because his casting is an 010 block, doesn't mean its a L48 motor. Almost every non-roller 350 ever made was built from that block. It could have 140hp, or it could have 360hp. If you could get the numbers scribed into the pass side deck of the block, right above where the water pump bolts to the block on the pass side, then we could tell you what you have, or at least, what it was in.
Originally posted by 1981z28 3970010 are L-48s the go from 190hp-360hp i had the 1970 L48 with 10.25.1 300hp and 380ft.lbs
They are also LT-1, L82, DZ, LM-1, L83, and lots of others.
The L48 motor NEVER had 360hp. That was only the LT-1 derived engine for the Z28 in 1970. The real LT-1 was a Corvette engine, 370hp.
L48 was just one model (actually an RPO) of 350. The 010 block was used for almost EVERY different model of 350 in the late '60s to the end of the '70s, as well as for 327s and 302s in the late '60s.
3970010 is just one of the casting numbers GM used for their 4" bore, large journal 2 or 4 bolt main small blocks. These blocks were used for 302s, 327s and 350s. This is probably the most common block in existence.
If you don't beleive me, talk to RB83L69 or Five7kid, or better yet, take it to the Engine Swap or Tech/Gen Engine board.
I'm not trying to start a fight, I just want to get the correct info out there.
BTW - All I meant by the "doesnt matter if its out of a Camaro" comment was that after about '72 or '73, almost all 4bbl 350s were the same, even in RPO code, whether it was in a Camaro, Impala, truck, whatever. Even if it came out of an Impala or something, odds are its exactly the same as what I pulled out of that '79 Z28.
theres nothing wrong with wanting to to get the right info out there. i was ure there was a 360hp l48 o well guess not .oo wait a sec that means i got the strongest model l-48 made
the c10 l48 in 1970 was the same as the l48 in the ss camaro .its a dam good motor
the l48 350\3970010 was only made 68-79 by my chevy casting numbers book.
The 302 had another casting number too, though. My brother actually has one in his truck that the block casting comes back to 68-70? 302, 327, 350. Besides, unless you know the pistons type, head casting, and cam specs, nothing can really be derived from a casting #, except the diameter of the bore.
