Reason: sound better
Lol he asked if running 87 octane would slow him down by half a second in the quarter mile. He used to run a 13.2 1/4 mile using 2 gal of 93 octane mixed with 3 gal of 110 octane. Now he runs a 13.7 1/4 mile with a full tank of 87 octane.
My response is that part of it could be the added weight of a full tank. If you ran a full tank, you ran three times the weight in gasoline that you normally do (6.2lbs/gal, 15.5 gallon tank = ~96lbs; 5 gal = 31lbs)

two weeks ago i run that 13.2 no changes to the car but that gas i run 13.7 same track and all.
With a 10:1 CR and aluminum heads it is very reasonable. That combo is not at its best performance with 87 (high CR and aluminum heads with a higher fuel volatility, ie low octane, = poor performance).
