87 camaro vs 96 mustang GT

Ok, I got a friend who thinks his 96 GT is all that. It has some minor mods and an x pipe, He always talks trash about smoking my camaro, I know it will take me now, but What would I need to do to give him a better run for it?

My stats:

305 lg4 carb
holley remanufactured q-jet carb
headers
3in pipe to the flowmaster dual outlet muffler ( no cat)
edelbrock intake manifold
holley fuel pump
open element filter

I know that is all basic mods, but give me some options or ideas, a 350 it out of the question at this time and so is nitrous.

Re: 87 camaro vs 96 mustang GT

Well nitrous is kina a cure all as usual.

BUT, a simple cam swap would wake your little 305 up, bump up to a 650 double pumper(you will use more fuel when playing). If you have shorty headers a set of full lengths from headman would help and god forbid DITCH THOSE 2.73s! A set of 3.73s would liven your car up a ton. If you have a 87 year block a roller cam is in order if it is not factory equiped.

You have an advantage over me and some others, you have one of the lighter bodys. No GFX helps in the weight departmeny, but hell, it is just a 96 GT, they are slow as hell for a V8 too. With the mods i have listed you might kill him and his pride pretty badly.

Good luck!

Gears would be quicker if you had somone do it,should cost less too. Then go from there with the rest of the mods.

Re: 87 camaro vs 96 mustang GT

Jack a set from Ebay of see if you can get a posi chunk from a 4th gen, as long as the axle count is the same your in the good. Otherwise fins a complete rearend for 200$ or so and you would save even more money.

If you got the cash a auburn chunk will work great.

a converter with a little more stall along witht the aforementioned mods (cam gears and car) will make a very big difference. (assuming your automatic)

Re: 87 camaro vs 96 mustang GT

Just remember, a better carb and intake would still swap over to the new motor, that way if you do find a deal on those parts and at a good price you can have no worries about re-use.
