Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
The FAST record was set at my local track a while back. The car was definately NOT factory original, just appeared that way. That has to be one of the most badass classes running in this day and age!

Ah so 18 second car, do you hate ricers and make that vocal to them and the world? If so thats the perfect example of an American car owner that most people laugh at!
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
few things I wanted to cover here.
first import does NOT equal FWD. just like domestic does NOT equal RWD.
import does NOT mean 4cyl. just like domestic does NOT mean V8
import car does not mean wings, fart cans and rice just as a domestic car doesn't mean class style and fast.
many people here seem to like to make a generalized assumption based upon their limited experiece with the world. so with these generalized assumption it seems to end up that import means 4 cylinder, fart cans, wings, awfull body kits, with a scrawny little kid driving the car. sure that might be your experience but that doesn't mean that is what defines an import, but rather just your limited experience with imports and what you have heard about imports.
anymore teh same can be said about domestics. 4 cylinder, cheap, body kits, wings, fart cans, fwd and such. remember neons, corsicas, focus, cavalier and all those are domestic products as well.
also many domestic owners seem to have brought on their own stereo types as well with being red neck, hillbilly, white trash, m ullets, driving a rust rocket, falling apart broke down piece of junk, with the domestic car being the cheap mans trash mobile. now how many of you guys fall in to t hat catagory? sure some of you might but I'm also sure qutie a bit of you dont' though yet that catagory still exist because they are out there and quite a few of them and usually they are the ones that gather the most attention. still though doesn't mean the typical owner of a domestic falls under one of those two catagories. so why do import drivers have to fall into a lumped together catagory.

um ya and we wonder why thirdgen owners have bad reputations while also havign a stereotype of red neck hillbilly. I'm not saying you are as I don't know you but it's actions like that at least that give thirdgen owners bad names.
maybe so you can see it as well imagine a "r icer" saying scew domestic owners and all teh people that own them. chances are you would think he was an idiot with just a big stick up his... right? remember it works both ways there

just a BIG BTW.
you do realize that the saturn you are talking about is not an import right?

This is why i called for the lock. And of course i stick up for thirdgens, This is TGO, isnt it?

Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
understandable to stick up for your make of car. that's cool you should stick up for what you drive and I fully understand that.
look around though with many of the members here they stick up for their car blindly though and then you end up with a bunch of people driving a v6/lg4/lo3 adn think they can take on any other car because it's just that another car a different car and everyone knows the thirdgen rules and can beat anything right?
either that or they are very demeaning and narrow minded in how they approach things with other car companies out there and so if someone drives an import they by default have all the ***** mods in teh world and aer slow and the driver is just stupid. even if it is a fully built but yet bone stock looking supra that is putting down 600hp.
there is a difference between having a little fun and friendly rivalry. that;s cool and it's all for fun in the sport. then there are others who are just blind and just cause the problems.
we have them on the import side and you guys have them on the domestic side. as my old sig used to say (or maybe still does say I donno) forget import vs domestic how about r1ce vs nice
EDIT:here is kind of an example of what I was takling about though
he stuck up for the car with blind passion as it is a thirdgen it beats all and so he will win agains the other loser who drives some other hunk. look how he ended up.
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
RX7speed, I agree with you completely on every topic i have read so far. Right on. I wish i wasnt so lazy, or i would have said exactly the same stuff as you.
I also have a very low tolerance for idiocy, which contributes to my laziness!

I'm not ripping on people with slow cars. Everyone has to start somewhere. I'm ripping on people with slow cars that think "all imports are junk" or laughing at the kid with the 16 second Hon-duh. The fact is I'm sure they laugh at some of us on their message boards.
Someone with a 15-16 second car has no right to talk trash on anything.

again this is TGO, so settle down, and stop trying to start something. At least im in the right forum.
you really should heed your own words a little bit. if you don't want him to start something then why would you insist upon trying to start it yourself trying to attack ones sexual preference.
I agree with him though that it is funny that this is a TGO board though and that you have been put on probation by your own peers there for doing something that was not welcome on this board. with that being that you are the one on probation why is it that you should be able to tell others what to do there as it would seem you can not follow the rules yourself.
also why isn't he on the right forum? he has as much right as anyone to be here. plus I don't remember him being on probation before (though I could be wrong). and if that is the case though then I would say if anything he has more of a right to be here.
and like normal I'm going to assume since you said your flame and attacked something or something and now it's turning against you that it's time for the lock right?
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
you can be put on probation for just being a type of person that doesnt get along well with others it happens all the time. Some ppl have attitudes on the internet and resort to flame attacks on others and it gets out of hand with threats and just poor conduct in general. Not saying this is his case but just pointing that out. I know some guys that are ok in person but on the internet they are just hard to get along with.

I'm well aware of that as I've had issues with this guy before. his sole reason for flaming me in another chat was because I owned a mazda. I figured he would of gone past that stage now with others but it doesn't seem like it.

a flame is kind of like the above remark. mean to be inflamitory to someone by attacking them over the net with negative remarks that really have to basis behind them.

and I know that example was rude. that is the point of a flame and why I put that disclaimer there as I wasn't using it to be directed at you or anything but more of just give you an example. that is the point of a flame a lot of times though is to be rude disrespectful and just not so jolly.
so sorry if you took took it bad I really meant nothing against you by saying that.
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
as for me, I've "built" a few rides, from a 283 powered 87 mazda b2200, to a 77 nova w/a 454, a 66 1/2 chevy stepside w/the original str8 six. Some were for looks and some were for power. The only fwd car I ever tried to work on was a late 80's early 90's turbo probe. Cosmeticly it wasn't too bad; little body work, some interior re-design and changing the tranny was about all I did to it. It did not have alot of off the line grunt (which to me was perfect because it spooled crazy fast after first gear) and ran away from alot of other muscle cars, supposed muscle cars, and inport/domestic "racers". I'd hazzard to say it was possibly the fastest car I've ever owned that could handle and while I never topped it all the way out I did have the speedo pegged on a few occasions. I've never built an all out corner carver, and its what I want w/my current 91 rs. But I've built a few straight line projects and while not all of them were pretty, all of them were "motivated" Of course this was a time before I'd even heard of nitrous on the street. Superchargers/turbos were track only and our beloved third gens and fox body mustangs were the current reigning new designs.::sigh:: I kind of miss those simpler times. I don't care if its an inport/domestic, if its done nicely and the right way it gets my full respect.

Yeah I'm with you on that, thats just totally ignorant for people to bust others balls about their car(performance wise) like that.
cosmetics are a whole different story though lol
Seriously though, I drove through a couple towns the other day to visit an old friend, and he had a 240sx v6 and man i would never race him, the SOB chirped third with a tranny on its way out...
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
WOW! so much has been thrown out here, it is kind of hard to decide where to go. But since I am coming in so late, I will just throw in my two cents. I will give respect to any car and owner who is truely into their car, (I think a lot of you could agree). The people who take time to learn facts about their rides, and enjoy the sport for what it is. Know that I bleed true F-body, and I have owned and built countless fast Camaros and Firebirds, but I also recognize that there are fast imports out there. EVO/STIs, Supras, NSXs and many more, but I personally would not drive them. I agree with the ones who talk about the sound of a V-8 singing at 5000 rpms, or the feel or the raw power twisting the chassis on a launch. Even the thrill of sending your tires to their grave in a cloud of smokey heaven is just pure bliss, and I would not trade the felling of just driving in my Camaros. I don't care if it is primered, rusted or rattleing, in fact my '79 Camaro is just that, I am not into "bling". Sure I want to have my car painted and shinny; who doesn't, but I don't have an extra 3 grand laying around for a good paint job. Honestly I like to hear the words "bad ***", or "damn dude, that car is wicked", than just "nice car". I like the looks my car gets, and I have done well for pulling cars that most would call junk from random back yards and turning them into the envy of many eyes.
What really bothers me are the people who put wheels, clear corners, a gaudy muffler, and stickers all over their car and think they are fast. The ones who think "tuning" is puttins a set of "NOS" brand floor mats in their car, or the ones who will buy the cheapest pair of sparkplug wires in a store ONLY because they are blue. My favorites though are the guys who have stock or VERY cheap aftermarket parts on their cars and they try to tell me they are some super rare Japanese spec custom part. There is a whole group of guys in my little town with hondas. They have a whole spattering of bolt-on stuff on their cars, i.e: wheels, cold air intakes, mufflers, short throw shif-knobs (no I didn't mean shifters, LOL), blue headlights, etc. I know this because I used to sell them these parts when I worked at the local Kragen and my friend that works there shares the humorous stories these kids provide. Point is they are barely faster than stock, louder than all hell, they have all been beat by almost every respectable muscle car in town, yet they all think they are hot ****. Makes me laugh more than anything.
Something to consider though, a lot of these "kids" have never been in or around a musclecar. They only speak the same rhetoric that all their friends do that they read on the internet or see in magazines. They have grown up around the little imports, and that is all they know. I have taken many for a ride in my cars and have gotten quite a few turned around, some are even driving F-bodies now. I have even had a few leave my car with a little something extra in their pants! LOL! Take one for a ride if you get a chance, it really is a lot of fun.
Sorry for the longer post, I just have a lot to say on this subject. I really could go on for days. Again, I will give the true "tuners" the respect they deserve any day, but it's the r1cers that always leave me shaking my head. I will stick with my F-bodys.

Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
well ok I must come clean on one part. I have the huge exhaust. I can shove my fist into the tip just barely touch the sides. yes it's unchristly loud obnoxious. wasn't fully by choice though.
it started off with my removing 3 cats from the car and the stock literal box exhaust manifold and replacing it with a header and straight pipe to the stock catback. not long after that my stock exhaust rusted out fell apart lost the stuffing and was more or less like an open exhaust. I needed something and chose the cheapest exhaust I could find rather then the one that I wanted to get. 300 bucks vs 600 bucks I think. one of these days though I will post pics so you guys can laugh at me
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
yeah, I will laugh a little, but I will say that just because you have that doesn't make you a r1cer. I have rust and rattling doors, but I am nowhere near a ******t (sp?) wearing *******. I will give you some credit for the RX7 , and you sound like you got the right idea anyhow. Hell, I drove around for a few weeks with open headers while I waited for my next paycheck to come so I could buy the pipes and mufflers for my exhaust. Now that was loud. Good humor. There is some really sic stuff out there for those RX7s, I have built a couple, impressive how much power can come out of those little 1.3Ls.

Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
sorry for the dirt. I haven't really cleaned the car much since I'm driving american right now and the rx7 doesn't have working headlights so can't drive it much outiside of daylight hours anyway.
and yes that is an apple in there for size reference and it still has room to spare. actually had the pluck it from the exhaust a fewtimes as the bastadrd thing ketp rolling back
Re: why do honda/import "tuner" people think their stuff is fast
I'm chiming in a little late as wel but here goes.
Personally my angst for these little, loud, sometimes burning oil, cars is from highway driving and also them driving around my old towns side streets. I'm generalizing here so don't jump all over me but I've seen far too many of the bad/ignorant driver compared to sane ones.
There is nothing that ticks me off more than seeing *anyone*, let alone the little cars, racing through traffic on a busy 3-4 lane highway. And of all the cars I've seen doing this I'd say 75% of them where the little guys, 15% were BMW's/Mercedes/Cadillacs, 5% other muscle cars(Mustangs, Corvettes mostly, I'd put ourselves in there as well but you dont see many of us nearly as much since we've been out of production for quite some time) and 5% were 4x4 trucks lifted 6"+.
Now flip the coin, stop and go rush hour traffic. All I have seen the little cars do in this situation is leave a big gap in front of them, floor it so everyone can hear their mighty roar (rattle?), only to come to a stop and repeat until the traffic clears up.
It's annoying. Drive normal. It wouldn't kill them. Add in the BOOM BOOM BOOM from stereos better spent on making their car better wouldn't kill them either.
Now, on very rare occasions I have encountered the direct opposite. A little car done up REALLY nice. Aftermarket skirting that won't disable small children if driven too close to, nice sounding exhaust that is larger than stock but not quite as big as the "coffee can" example, and has a nice tone. I only remember TWO instances of this kind. I can only wish for a better ratio than that.
For what it's worth one was a Toyota Celica (Final Gen, maybe a 2002) and a Hydundai Tiberon (most recent model). And I can't STAND Hyundai stuff, this person really did a great job on it. So much so I wanted to follow and ask questions about it.
