Don't waste the energy man, things like that are not typically well accepted among forums, thats just the nature of the beast. For one reason or another it's "hard to belive" people have more money and resorces than ourselves, so theres going to be people with doubt.
My 2006 WRX STi (which is a 4 cylinder turbocharged / 6 speed / roughly 350-370hp) went 177.7 mph on a top speed run and I was just at the edge of redlining it. I'm talking with nothing more than a simple ECU tune to give me a few more lbs. of boost and no fuel cut, or speed governor. People didn't believe that for a while either until they realized that with out a speed governor in those cars the top speed was only "theoretical" until I decided to give it a go.
Sounds pretty awesome to run an 8.8 street car, thats probably every car guys dream!

Yes that was almost 205mph, and no I am not joking. My cousin's best friend's family owned a machine shop that did custom machine work and fabrication for WRC race teams, and a lot of the work was performed in that shop. The Iroc was a bone stock 1989 350 TPI 5-speed car when I got it in late 1998 with a mere 35,000 miles on the clock. Heavily modified means: The engine was bored, stroked, balanced and blueprinted. Forged crank, H-beam rods, main girdles, forged 12.:1 pistons. Camshaft was a custom grind for the engine design and had a full roller valvetrain. Heads were World Products that were also ported, polished, and had enlarged and custom ground valves. The intake was a combination of aftermarket parts and heavily altered factory parts. A home built (well actually shop built) DIS ignition system was used along with a stand alone type ECM system, basically a laptop computer ran the car. It also had a Paxton supercharger running around 14 pounds of boost and a direct port nitrous injection system.
The transmission was a t-56 from a rolled 1998 Z28 (no the LS1 didn't survive the crash) that was re-geared and cold treated to withstand the application. The clutch was a dual plate hydraulic assist design, and the rear was a GM 12-bolt with Superior axles, Eaton differential components, and 4.11:1 gears.
The chassis and suspension were a mix of production aftermarket components and some custom fabricated tubular components, largely because there simply was not as much available for these cars then as there is now. Had a hydraulic assist Baer brake system, (yes there really is such thing, some vehicles came that way from the factory).
On the Dyno the IROC would pull roughly 785 HP and 850 ft-lbs of torque. The Nitrous hit was tuned to 250 HP, so yes it had plenty of power to hit 200. I ran it on the 1/4 mile in Pamona several times and it consistantly would run 8.8 at around 186 mph with drag radials, and with track tires on it could pull 1.3 g's on a skidpad (all your italian and other supercars are only at best good for .9 g's).
Unfortunately I have to use terms like "roughly" because I sold this car back in early 2000 and all of the timeslips and "paper proof" went with the car. But to give you an idea, I paid $5,000 cash for the car, and sold it for $28,500. Heavily modified truely means HEAVILY MODIFIED. BTW, this car was also my daily driver, that's the beauty of programable engine management. Didn't hurt that gas was also $.95 per gallon in southern California at that time.
yah and how many people have a race car like you? maybe 1-5 on this site so when someone says 200+ mph its hard to believe. Now i understand and i apologize
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
ive had my bone stock 87 iroc-z28 5.7 with rebuilt 700r4 and shift kit to about 142-143mph and thats about all it had it took a minute to get all the way there not to mention the poor car sounded like it was ready to blow at them high rpms
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
No offense taken. There are always people who talk a mean game but really wouldn't know their tail lights from their dipsticks, I am alway skeptical too.
My situation was more resources than money, although being 18 making $20/hr and having almost no bills didn't hurt. I did most of the work on my car myself, the porting and polishing was done by me with a dremmel in my living room (ah the batchelor days). Just happened to get in with my cousin's friend on their slow season, so they let me do the major work there in the shop and just supervised me and pointed me in the right directions. Now, having long since moved out of southern California I no longer have those resources, and life and family always brings more bills. And saddest of all I had to sell that IROC to move, still kills me.
Now I have a 1979 Camaro with a mild 350 that runs out of gear at 141-142 mph, Sheriff's Department radar certified . And have found a speed limiter around 120 mph in my rescently sold 1989 Camaro RS (305 tbi, 700R4). I just got my hands on a 1984 Z28 and I have a LT1 and a 700R4 laying around in my shop, so I may attempt a shot at 200 mph again. Once you get there it is addicting as hell!

one thing i wanna know and maybe you can help me. How in the hell can you trick the 700r4 trans to shift into 4th gear at WOT? Only way ive found is to buy a 600 dollar valve body that allows total manual shifting. Reason i ask is all my current cars top out close to 140 due to redlining in 3rd gear

Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
around 105 on the I-10 freeway home from LA after work in my '90 305 RS. I would try to take it higher but everything starts shaking incredibly violently and the dash acts like it wants to fly off.
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
Toyotah8r, just remove the detent cable from the trottle linkage and it should shift into 4th. Granted this will also keep the car from down shifting when you step on the throttle, but a shot for top speed would be worth it. Truthfully I have not messed with many 700R4s, most of the autos I have worked with were TH-400s and TH-350s. Give that a shot, if it does not work some internal mods will be needed.

I'm more of a corner hugger, but on the backroads where theres never any cars I've hit 95.
I dont know how descriptive this would be but I've done 40mph around a tight corner with the speed limit being 10mph and the car held to it like a fly on a glue trap.
lol off topic a little

B&M offers the improved WOT 3-4 upshift kit under PN 70249.
There are others available as well.

The only pics I have been able to find are the few I took of it when I first got it, just a pure stock black IROC-Z with T-tops (I am also missing a bunch of my current project too). I think some of my old racing buddies have some laying around of some track days, I will see if they can find them. There is also a Mustang driver somewhere in So-Cal with a home video of my smokey tail light show!

How did you manage to run 14 lbs of boost with 12.5 to 1 compression pistons?
Where did you find a stock 350 TPI with a stock 5-speed?

what a huge load of bs. 2 loads. and the car would need 3 loads more of bs to hit 186mph in the 1/4. like twice the power.
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
Sorry, 12:1 compression was a mistake, got two different motors confused. The compression on that engine was 8:1, sorry for the confusion. It was my buddies '95 Mustang with the Nitrous injected 502 (yes a Chevy engine) that had the 12:1.
As far as calling BS goes, I was expecting that and honestly would be disappointed if I didn't get it, happens all the time. Truth is I gave all of the documentation to the guy that bought the car from me 9 years ago. It doesn't really matter if you believe it or not, I don't really care, it doesn't change fact and it doesn't harm my buisness. I'll keep building fast cars just like I always have, after all they are built to please me and my customers, not you.

I think its funny (not in an offensive way) that some of the fastest you guys have gone is in the 90 mph range. Over here on the freeway I'll cruise along at 90 and a soccer mom will pass me by in her suv while on her cell phone, painting her nails, eating frijoles, and so on... anyways I myself have buried the needle on my 145 speedo on the 405 a little scary to say the least.

With advice like that I dont mind calling BS on the rest of your stuff either. No way would someone have a supercar that runs at pro-stock levels and "forget" or "confuse" the engine specs. I dont think so.
BTW its not a detent cable its a TV cable, look up the difference.

this. even at 1000 RWHP and 2900 lbs (seems ABOUT right for a that situation), it comes at like 160 mph something at best.
I'm hoping to find somewhere to test my top speed once the 383s in. As it is with the worn out 305, best I've done is just shy of 100 at the strip. (stayed in it alittle past the line just to hit 100, then finding out my speedo is off!!)
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
I know I said I would not post again, but I have to comment on this. I have had many early 4th gen f-bodies get real close to 165, and they had nothing more than an SLP loudmouth exhaust (cat-back only), a K&N intake, a couple MSD ignition parts (wires, cap + rotor, 6A ignition box), and a hypertech provided ECM programming. In an LT1 6-speed car that is no where even cose to 1000rwhp, I would even be surprised if it was 350. My wife's bone stock 1994 Formula (LT1, 4L60E) tops out around 145. How many of you have ever built, driven, or even been around 200+ mph cars?
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
Had to see if my B4C would actually do 150mph one night on a Connecticut highway....it did. It was all stock then, but have since put in a new cam and heads. I'm a little older and wiser since my reckless youth, so I doubt I'll ever now how fast it will go now...

Talking about 1/4 mile times.
They are saying you didn't make enough to hit those top speed runs.
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
tried to add something to my last post and my computer ate the post. Keep in mind I didn't tell everything about the car, things like having two different rear ends. I only gave a general overview of what was in the car, not the specifics. So I screwed up the compression ratio, big deal, show me that you haven't made a mistake. You know, I found some pics and timeslips of that car, even the video that was given to me of my breaking 200mph on the salt flats. But I really don't want to post them here, why bother? I am just grateful to have gotten the motivation to dig those memories out (and clear 600 pounds or garbage from one of my storage units).
ljnowell: As I stated in the post you quoted, I do not have a lot of experience modifying a 700R4. Usually when I have built f-bodies with autos, the owners opt to switch to a TH-350 or 400, and the detent cable controls a downshift at full throttle. Having never tried it myself, it would make sense to try removing the cable from the throttle bracket which would keep it from downshifting at full throttle. Theoretically it would allow the trans to upshift at full throttle. ONCE AGAIN, I DO NOT HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE MODIFYING A 700R4! The only work I have performed on these is installing shift kits and stall converters, other than minor repairs nothing. I din't say it will work, I said it SHOULD work; implies theoretical. If you KNOW it won't work, feel free to correct me (would be nice to KNOW for my own projects). You all should not be so quick to flame people based on what you think you know, you will chase away a lot of people you could learn a lot from. For instance I could have told you all how to modify your stock TPI intakes to flow better than ANY aftermarket intake available, learned from hours of trial, testing and tuning. But I see more and more why people don't want to post on here, and why so many local groups have problems with GTGs. I will stick with my local crowd, you guys can have your website. Good bye!

so i had my old wornout 1992 to 111mph where it has a fuel cut off set at. my current 1989 camaro iroc-z i've had between 125 and 130 and it was dead flat for a long long ways..... i honestly was massively depressed it seemed to have nothing left at all lol....... that and i have tons of bolt ons and most say the 305 5 speed combo is good for 140+ stock but anyways thats as slow as she go's

i wont pull my tv cable as i learned the hard way with my old s10 LOL
i wasnt going to say anything and just let this guy spill his thoughts here.....
i mean the tv cable does more than downshift the trans...its helps by putting more pressure to the vital parts to prevent slipping and trans death by overheating. This came from grandpa that worked at gm powertrain plant here in toledo where he built gm transmissions.
but yah, he built for sreet driving not racing so he didnt know how to modify the trans to shift into OD under WOT conditions
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
Uhm, guys... I need to appologize to everyone on this thread, somehow my account was hacked into and someone has been posting in my place. My passwords have now been changed, and I am going to try and keep it rotating so what happened doesn't again. I have been away from my computer for a few weeks and have just got back to see what has been said. Again, I am sorry. Hopefully no-one was too offended. I have got to go surf elsewhere on this site and clean any other messes.
BTW, the only detail right in this whole thing was a supercharged IROC. But it only topped out around 185mph. It would run high 8's but I think the fastest it went was only 145 or so.
Again I appologize for the confusion and frustration, and I promise it won't happen again.

As soon as I saw the scenery I knew you were from the Central Valley. was that old 99? Man I miss home!
Fastest i've gone is 140mph on highway 99. There was a 65 Chevelle egging me on so I said why not. It was pretty deserted at the time. As soon as I came up to a little traffic I slowed to the speed limit. Lokked back for the Chevelle, and what do you know a highway patrol was coming on me FAST. Pulled over and he told me it took him a long time to catch up to me. Said he appreciated the fact that I was honest with him about racing and for slowing down as soon as there were cars around. He said was behind us when we started racing! Luckily he only gave me a ticket for no front license plate. I havent gone over 80 at all since then.
It took me a 15 to 20 minutes to get from Visalia to Fresno! For people not familiar with the area it usually takes about 45 minutes. VERY VERY STUPID!!!!

So all the talk of driving 4 hours for a meet in the Northern Ca section was someone else posting too? How nice of them to schedule you in Or the talk of having a get together in your area? Guess that was the hacker too. Sorry but uh, I just don't believe you and you're just trying to cover your butt on being caught in a lie.
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
in my poor little 86 sportcoupe 2.8 700r4, about 110-120 mph, in someone elses car, test drove a thirdgen, guy didnt want to come along, i think he was crazy, anyways 89 rs 350 automatic car, got it to about 125mph, didnt even buy the car hahaha
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
My friend had his Iroc to 142, 5 years later he scared me in his new 2000 LS1 going 171. Not sure if those were the exact speeds that we were going since i didnt look at the speedometer, id glance over every once in awhile but after i knew we were going past 120 i kept my eyes on the road so those are his claims, it sure did feel like it though LOL!

what? No, most of those were posted long before this happened. I posted a couple of things in the nor-cal section by mobile phone, but this site takes a long time to load on the phone so I didn't surf much. Like I said above, this has only happened in the past couple weeks (or few, im not sure when they got in, I'm still tracking it down). Whoever this was managed to get me kicked off of some sites I have been a member of for the last 8 years, and I am not happy at all about that. I don't expect anyone to believe me, fact is I wouldn't either. All I can do is apologize.

Fastest Ive been in my Camaro, I dont know really, its a Sport Coupe with an 85mph speedo, though I did have it back around to 25mph, was still picking up speed, had to slow down because the fire bird in front of me decided to slow down and not change lanes.

C'mon dude, dont give us that crap. Just create a new account and start over, next time dont talk so much crap. Your name isnt Shane is it, perhaps typed sahne?
Re: whats the fastest you have gone in your thirdgen?
i did break the speedometer in my 83 firebird that had a 305 LOL........i hit 85mph and it started making a tick under the dash. Next thing i know the pointer drops to zero and that was that
the LG4 lumbered its way to nearly 140mph before winding out of breath.........months later i put this tired old motor in my 85 trans am
