Well, I hate to admit it, but I got my rump kicked. It wasnt a real bad butt whooping but it wasnt real great either. Me vs My buddy in his truck. Truck is a 2005 Ford F350 4x4. Fully chipped, tuned, exhaust, etc. He is making in the neighborhood of 600hp and way more Tq. We ran from a stop and I actually had him until midway through second gear. Then he got good traction. And ate me. I have a 1988 Camaro, LO3, T-5. Totally stock. I am the second owner of the car (well, third, but the second was my uncle and he put no miles on it). Nice car, but stock and slow. I cant bring myself to modify it though, its just too damned nice stock.

Ok if you knew he was making that much power why did you race him? and secondly, no offense if he's one of your good friends but i consider him a dumb*** for modding an F-350, that thing must weigh like 7000 lbs! I'll bet an LS1 could beat him. At least you tried lol YOu gotta mod that thing, i had an L03 it was fun when i first got it but when i started loosing it had to go.... haha good luck man!
Don't feel bad, here in my area a guy back in the 90's had a 1979 F-350 4X4 with 40" mud tires that could out run 5.0 mustangs through the quarter. He had a 429 Cobra Jet with Nitrous. Very funny to watch him out run people from out of town that did not believe that truck was that fast!

Dude no wonder you are on probation.
#1 I live in Illinois. We have these things called truck pulls. He competes with it, and wins money.
#2 I raced him for fun. I knew I would lose, it wasnt even a doubt. I'm as ase master auto technician, I know all about slow and fast cars.
#3 I have a fast car, this is my daily driver. I want it stock and intend to keep it that way.
I rarely ever drive my car hard, let alone race. It was a one time thing for fun. Thanks for reminding me why I dont post in this foum much.

Dude its an opinion, and your l03 car is not fast. I love third gens but the l03 is pretty much worthless if you want a fast car. And if your ASE certified i would expect that car to be fast as hell but still look stock..... didn't mean to come off as a jerk but it just seemed worthless to me. well as long as you had fun.
We used to have a 95 Dodge Cummins that I had modded pretty extensivly, you'd be shocked how fast you can make a big heavy diesel truck go Don't know how many guys I handed it to, kinda the ultimate sleeper. As far as racing him in the first place, hey I'm not scared to race anyone. So what if I lose? Someone racing and losing is no big deal, better that than be one of these guys (ya'll know the type) that talks on and on about how he's got something faster, better, will someday be faster but will never ever show up to the track.

I'm sure he modded his F-350 because it's what he wants to do. And I wouldn't be so sure about an LS1 beating it...those trucks can EASILY run low 11's in the 1/4th mile if done right!

all third gens are stupid slow. thats why they must be modded. and since parts are everywhere they are a fun car to build. i think min should run 11s with the 355 motor and thats turd slow. but once the turbo setup is in. id say high 8s and still be my street car. and small tire to boot. thats a fast car. and yes i would race a diesel truck.

I know what you mean. I raced a brand new vette. I knew i was going to get smoked. I just wanted to see was i can do. First i treed him good at green. then when he hit about 3rd gear he past me. i wonder what he was thinking when i was in front. my $1,500 formula was ahead of is $65.000 vette. over all it was fun

Are you really that dense? Where in my post did I say that my LO3 was fast? There is a COMMA in that sentance. Denoting a pause in speech. A seperate thought. I have another car. That doesnt have an LO3. There, I went ahead and put periods to entirely seperate the thoughts so simple minded people can understand. Its not IF I am ASE certified, I am. I can post my ID #, and you can go and look it up if you like. I worked hard for that and own my own shop.
This thread was meant to be lighthearted and a JOKE about how slow an LO3 is. Get the hell out of it if you cant play nice.
its a turbo motor, so i would feel safe saying 11's, which are turd slow compaired to 8's
Personally I wouldn't hesitate to call a car capable of running 11's on a 1/4 mile and still served as a daily driver a fast car. Something like that would well hold its own against most other street cars. My 1979 Camaro is roughly a 12 second car (numerically speaking, we have no track around here to try it out, but the power and gearing point to low 12's), and it seldoms looses on the street. But while I will agree that 8 seconds is truely fast, usually the ammount of work it takes to make a car run that fast regularly takes a lot of fun out of a daily driver. I really enjoy the cars when they are in 11 to 12 second trim.
As for the original post, sounds like it would have been a fun race. I always enjoy running against cars that are way more powerfull than mine, just to see how I do. And it always makes for a great day when I do a lot better than I thought. My last one was against a supercharged 440 in a '70 Cuda, sure I got beat, but he was only walking me. Good times.

I understand. I drive an 85 LG4 every day, near 18k a year. The only mod has been a conversion to electric fan. I'm afraid to do much else as I'm lucky to get 22-24 mpg during my 35 mile commute. Drove it to Missouri last Summer (850 miles one way) and averaged 27, cruise on and AC. It treats me well enough. Of course all the suspension, springs/bushings, have been replaced with stock stuff and I've chased down a lot of rattles.
Mod it? Why?
My toy is an 87 with a vortec 350, hopefully roller cam next Summer...
Its nice? It will still be nice after---just quicker.
Man, I'm old. I have a wife and a kid. I have a fast car that sits in the garage and gets 200 miles a year, whether it needs it or not. I want my daily driver stock. I like it that way. when you get old like me you probably will too. I like the quite exhaust, smooth idle, 25mpg on the highway.
As for its worth, its priceless to me just the way it is.

hahah sounds like me, except I have 2 kids (much more fun I highly recommend it) My dd is my basket case. I will be getting a little beater when I put this one in the garage. Then its tear it down, fix what needs it, modify what I don't like, and change anything I can't mod. I won't be some super fast track car (although it will see the eventual blast down the strip from time to time) and I plan to build a nice cruising car out of it. I'm not expecting (nor concerned with) all out gas mileage, as much as I am streetable power. I already know its going to cost me WAY more than the car is worth, but thats not the point. The point is I am going to put this thing back together the way I want it to be w/little in the way of caring what it brings the final resale price up/down to.
I "accidently" raced some little modded prelude the other day in my durango. I was trying to get the windshield wipers to spray the window and accidently hit the over drive button instead (its in the switch) doing about 55 on the freeway. The prelude noticed me jump a bit, and decided I was going to be one of his kills, HAHAHAHA not so much. I stomped on it and took it to redline before kicking the od back in and had a good laugh as he got me on the fly by. Oh well it was my exit coming up anyway, so I got off. Later that day I saw the same prelude pulled over by the AHP getting what I can only guess was a speeding ticket.
1/4
----------
lol 1/4 mile i dont race 1/8th. not enought mph. the 11`s are on motor. the motor in the camaro came out of my s10 wich went 9.90s on spray. and it will have the same spray in the camaro. the turbo should run high 8s. that is just a estimate. i know im only putting in a 8.50 cert cage for it. so that will be the limit of the car. i know the motor and turbo could proably go faster.
----------
ill say it this way my s10 is testing the turbo setup. it is my current street car and ran 9.90s with the 355 and a 225 big shot kit.mph was 134.98. the 60 ft was still a little slow 1.38 because the little 355 just dont make any tq to move the 32x14 slicks. i drove it all over in this setup to the streetraces many times. never streetraced. they make tracks for that.
when the turbo is finished on the camaro then it will be my street car. 8.50 cert e85 fuel and a carb. ill take the chute off to drive since it will block the plate on the camaro. the s10 is fine plate is off to the side. nice thing about turbo and a small tire car. no gear, small converter, and easy to drive.

Yep, when I was younger it was all about speed. Who needs power brakes, ac, or cruise control? I like my nice gas mileage and comfort. And honestly, that little lo3 with the t5 is still fun to drive.

Dude what is your problem? grow up... this is stupid. I have a right to my opinion. and it wasn't a flame at you either. so calm down.
Are you still here? The thread flows nicely without you. Your "opinion" of my car was not requested, nor was it even right.

Thats it. When he first got his stuff done to the truck he an against my other car. Lets say the outcome wasnt exactly the same.
Ok exactly why are you on here then? I have an opinion and i see lots of other ppl on the site can post their opinion so what can't I? you need to chill out man, stop getting so stiff the moment someone mentions your car. and sure if you had fun thats all that matters but why be a prick to other ppl? i'm not argueing with you, this is childish.
that said, there is nothing wrong with enjoying a L03?? And there are still ALOT slower cars than that out there. At least he can pass on the highway yanno? lol.
that said I suppose I'm being hypocritical as I build my 383
one of the best races i've had with my 383 this year was with a dodge diesel. I went 11.53 to his 11.8x. He got a jump off the line so it was very close at the stripe.

Go back and read you other posts again. I dont need someone to tell me my LO3 is slow, when that is the point of my thread. "If you knew he had that much power why did you race him?" For the fun of it. Because it looked like something to do.

It was not the basis of this post, or it would have said something about how slow your l03 was, you never mentioned it. Stop being a immature chilr and just talk about it, don't piss and moan. I was merely stating a fact and if you agree with me then why complain?. This is funny now.

I think i mistook the tone of your post, for that I will apologize. However all of your namecalling and crap is getting old. and yes, that was the exact purpose. The following is quoted from my OP:
"Nice car, but stock and slow. I cant bring myself to modify it though, its just too damned nice stock."
So, if there was some misunderstanding I will apologize for that, but knock off your name calling and crap thats uncalled for. In almost almost all of your post you acuse people of being childish. Thats not exactly a productive tone either.
Diesels can be great fast DDs. Those mods listed above should be a 13-14 second truck, probably on par with a lot of stock quick cars. I've driven 13 second Diesels and seen 11 second ones, all of which were great work trucks, just hauled a$$ at the track!

I'm not doing ANY namecalling, calling you childish is a mild way of me calling you immature for reacting the way you did. My apologies as well i didn't mean to make you think i was ragging on ya. And yes we can play nice.

its a little suprising when a truck apears to be stock. Hammers on it when the light turns green. Happened to me too! lol Was not all that ready to "race" I had a bad start. This truck pulled hard! Even with a good start i think i would have got my butt handed to me. Black smoke! Big bad diesel! These guys are the sleepers of the streets.
I dont know, to me if i lose its not all that upsetting. Im interested in what makes some of these different vehicles move. Its more entertaining to see a LS1/ SVT/Vett/ or old big block in action than beat up on some sunfire with a can on it that cuts off people in traffic... Dont get me started lol!
The biggest sleeper that I ran up on at a stoplight was a OLD MAN in a 4 DOOR. I was on my way down to the club one night, guy is sitting at the light next to me and gives me the thumbs up. I thought he liked my car. Light turns green, and he is GONE! Next light found out it was a E55 AMG Mercedes. Very cool 4 DOOR ! ! !
Thanks, that diesel is twin turbo and very very quick!! It surprised me. Once i got the bottle tho, there was only 1 race diesel at my track that could hang but i never saw him again

What you got done to the drivetrain so it can handle that? Built rear? Built tranny? Thanks
That was a pretty close race ! Looks like he got the Tree on you, but you got em after 1st ! 11 second Diesel, but there went some Ozone right ? lol
Nice race !
Anyone who isn't impressed with that, knowing that truck is probably a work horse during the week, there might not be much hope for you.
Diesels are great for making heavy vehicles move!
I deffinately agree with you , SOOOO much torque its unbelieveable! the only problem is they are only good in say a 1/4 they will run out of steam at higher speeds. But still get up to the higher speeds fast! haha
Yea... them diesels can be real beasts.. some people get cocky tho.. there was this kid I went to school with who had a f350 super duty.. turbo diesel chipped and exhaust..
He saw me driving my truck and decided he wanted to race me.. I don't normally race people.. but this guy was being cocky beyond belief.. tellin me how he was gonna whoop me, and how my truck was slow.. blah blah blah.. so i was like.. "what the heck"..
we pull up to the light.. I'm in my 2003 dodge ram 1500 shortbed standard cab.. 2WD.. Hemi.. it has exhaust.. and posi.. i think the gears are 3.90:1 somwhere in that range.. I couldnt tell you how bad i beat him.. but it was good.. and all he had were excuses..
"your truck weighs less than mine"... "if i was driving my lightning this would be a different story".. blah blah blah..
but my other buddy with a decked out duramax.. he'll stomp me any day of the week.

I gotta say honestly, that guy was a poser. What kind of chip/programmer and exhaust makes a big difference. If that guy would have spent his money properly on the right equipment, he could have walked on you. That assumes of course that the rest of the drivetrain is in good shape too.
What you got done to the drivetrain so it can handle that? Built rear? Built tranny? Thanks
stock 10 bolt rear rebuilt trans to 450hp that has 30K miles or so on it. Full suspension. At that time, i didnt have subframe connectors either. I now have 8pt roll bar plus subframe connectors. Car is 10X better with all that, so stiff now. Much smoother

Seriously, its one of the most incredible things i've seen. I dyno 400whp and run mid 11's on motor... he hung with me!! that truck is HUGE compared to my car. I have no idea what power he has but i bet its 800ish whp and 1500-2000lbft torque. Another local guy here has a 600whp diesel that maxed the dyno on torque. torque stopped at 1000 or 1200 i cant remember.. but his truck is only good for low 13's or so since its long bed, ext cab, etc. Much bigger/heavier than the one i raced.

definately treed me, but after that i got up and went. I caught even with first and it stayed that way till mid 3rd when i barely started pulling!! Best race i've had since i was running 13's with my bolt on L98 along side my buddies 89 full bolt on L98 formy
