Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

Looks are subjective...

The fox Mustang, even though some say was ugly, saved the Mustang from being axed. Their intent was to use the Probe as the Mustang design and go with a front wheel drive, small engine car. I'm glad they chose the escort looking fox instead!

Also the Fbody cost more back in the day, of which I wasn't alive for either.

Noone is saying the Camaro or Fbody (this is a GM site, NOT just a Camaro site) was bad, quite the contrary. Just the fact that back in the 80s and 90s, things were different.

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

I dont mind the F-bodys. My favorite car of all time is the 69 boss 429. But i have 2 buddys with basically stock 5.0s and their not a hole lot faster than my car. But the 302s can get 500hp out of them with out a problem.

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

I peresonally like the looks of the third gens and the 5.0 mustangs, and I wast trying to knock the third gens. You just made a comment that showed you really didnt know what you were talking about. The only reason GM put a 350 back in the camaro and firebirds was because the 305 couldn't keep up with the mustangs 302. The ford and mustang guys would always poke fun that it took 50 more cubes for the f bodys to keep up with a 5.0.The amount of bolt ons for 5.0's and how well they responded to them .vs practiaclly no bolt ons for the fbodies made it easy for the 5.0s to walk away from even an L98.

I assume these Mustangs are GT verts with autos? A 5-speed 5.0 Mustang vs a TBI car would never be a contest, unless there was something wrong with the fox, or the TBI had a fair amount of mods.

most older stock Asian imports, any GM diesel up till '04.5 (stock anyways), any stock Cummins or Powerstroke. most gasser trucks will give you a run for your money.

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

alot of people on here are gonna talk bad about lo3 cars. but if its all u have then u gotta deal with it. i had a 1990 camaro rs lo3. with only a open element and flowmaster catback it ran 10.5-10.6 in the eigth mile. then after i was finished with it i did jus some wieght reduction(no rear seats, no emissions, no ac, manual steering swap with "skinnies" up front, battery in trunk, spare tire removed, radio and all speakers removed, and fiberglass cowl hood) and a few bolt ons(edelbrock headers and y-pipe, cat delete pipe, flowmaster catback, custom cold air intake, 160 thermostat, custom chip, tbi spacer, injector spacer, edelbrock tbi intake manifold, and a BRIGHT A** CORVETTE YELLOW PAINTJOB lol) my rs ran 9.2s in the eight mile. never got to run a quarter though. that was good enought to beat quite a few fox bodys and a ton of 4.6 gt stangs. plus every civic and integra at my school lol. all that was with the stock 2.73 open rear too. there not bad cars if u know wat ur doing. but like everyone on here will tell you- 350s are PLENTIFUL

also if u notice. i did get the car down to a 9.2 in the eigth mile which will beat every STOCK 4.6v8 stang(9.7-9.8 at best) and almost 80% of all the ricers on the street. but i had well over a grand in mods to the car jus for 1 1/2 seconds off my eigth mile from stock. it wasnt worth it. fun car, but for what i put into it i coulda jus bought a 350.

I think you should recheck your quote. It should beat most stock 96-98 4.6s, it should be a good run with a 99-04 car, unless it is driven well, and an 05+ would beat that number by a fair amount. I am speaking GTs here, as every 4.6 cobra would beat that, as well as the Mach 1 and shelby. Just to clarify.

dont the 99-04 GTs (manual trans) run about the same as the 96-98 4v Cobras? i seem to remember those not being as potent as the 99/01 4v cars and only going high 13s or so

New Edge GT's should be able to pull off a high 13 with a great driver, but on average they're a basement 14 car. the SN95 Cobra's were good for mid-upper 13's.

They should be similar, lower 14s, higher 13s with the Cobras being a little faster. The newer 4v Cobras should be more solid in the 13s, and then the 03-04 is a different car really.

A low 9 second 1/8th mile is really only a sure thing against a 96-98 GT, the rest should run that fast if not faster.

I have seen an L03 5spd. car take my buddys bone stock L98 (87 with 2.77 rear) at the track. I think his car was running right around 15 flat, I was stunned to say the least. I looked over the kids car pretty well and the only "mod" I saw was someone took the emissions off it. Personally I think a L03 is a perfect canidate for a lil hidden nitrous system

the "New Edge" GT's are the 99-04 GT, the newest Stang's aren't called SN197, it's just S197. and SN95's are the 94-98 body style

youre kidding right? no stock Lo3 will run a 15.0, emissions delete or not. There were obviously other mods on the car that were missed. And if i had a TPI350 thirdgen and couldnt get out of the 15s id drive it off a cliff. even with the crappy 2.77 gears its at least a high 14 sec car

did a search on these very boards, seems the best bone stock time from a TBI thirdgen is a 15.3. keep in mind that was a manual trans car with 3.42 gears. id be willing to bet less than 1% of TBI cars came from the factory this way. your auto trans, 2.73 geared car wont come anywhere near that time. heres the post:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tb...stock-lg4.html (Fastest Bone Stock LG4 or L03 F Body)

just cause the car "looks" stock on the outside doesnt mean its stock. gears, clutch, short throw shifters, heads, cam... all these parts look exactly the same as the factory parts or cannot be seen from the outside of the car, even with the hood popped. even a nitrous system can be hidden from view

while i know the calculators arent the most accurate, doing the math puts that 1/8 mile time at roughly a 14.5

with your mods, shouldnt you be faster than that? the mph seems a little off too. whats your track elevation? thats about what a stock, auto trans version of your car should run

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

ahh, that makes sense. no one gets the best E/T or mph on their first try. keep going back and trying different things until youve mastered your car

when i first drove my Vette down the 1/4 mile, i only went 12.9 at 113mph. after going down 4 - 5 more times i got my times down to 12.2 at 116 (7.9 at 91 in the 1/8) with no changes to the car other than driving technique. practice makes perfect

The good thing about the 305 is its torque, you can kill alot of cars stop light to stop lights.

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

One more loss for the L03.

My wife had an 00 Grand Am GT. We street raced on a few occasions (the LO3 could stay with until about 40km/h) and took it to the track.

The GAGT was 0.7sec quicker and about 4-5mph.

Did you race him? Some of the newer minivans can be quick, not to mention we have ALL seen the guy online who took the mid 80s Caravan and put it into the mid 12s with a 2.2L (I believe) Chrysler motor.

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

Well since I live in an area where the whites are the minority and the asians are the majority, so 4 banger civics prowl at night pretending like they're japanese drifters and what not so I don't suffer very much when it comes to racing those "bad boys"

My car (bone stock) has beaten almost anything with a honda emblem that it has come across, a beamer of some sort, 98 around there, it was some girl that thought she was hot sh1t, 4th and 5th gen v6 mustangs, a couple of trucks, yeah it's lame but they wanted to race so who cares. And a 2001 GTI, it had a turbo, some girl that I knew from high school, I think she must have been letting me win or something because she let me drive it once and that little car is fast.

I have lost to a 4th gen lt1, big surprise right? an RX-8, it just kept pulling right off the line, numerous subaru's, one of those brand new altimas, the ones that go fast, i cracked my radiator racing that one.

I don't really care if I win or lose, i just cruise around at night pulling up at red lights looking for people to race, and don't get me wrong, i don't go all nascar on them and pull all the way up to 90 on the streets or anything, but i bring it up to where you know who wins

Re: What can a stock LO3 beat?

I had a truck try to. He was behind me as i was turning left onto a huge divided two way road. I rev a bit as i take off, and he pulls up behind me (light was still green). I hear him start to WOT and try to pull beside and I downshift and take off :P. Never really saw the truck, but I think it was a newer (06 maybe?) F series.
