Dont get mad if I call you and idiot i just call them like i see them, If you want to tell me im a jerk save it ive heard it all before....
i beat a L03 Camaro at the track with my Sunfire. his car had an open element air filter and a catback, my car is bone stock
my Sunfire went 15.8 at 88mph to his 15.9 at 87mph
That's absolute bullsh*t. No stock Sunfire runs a sub 16 quarter. Maybe, if condtions are really good and you get a good jump, a mid 17, low 18. The Camaro time was probably accurate, but unless you have a couple grand in that Sunturd, you aren't going to be pulling 15's. Post your paperwork, then I'll believe it.
i got one. aim higher cause all you find out in the 14/13's is that your still slower then punks with credit cards. evo's, dsm's, sti's, colts/mirage's, fox's, ls1 cars, all much better platforms for $ vs speed then an l98 car. if you're doin a smallblock chevy aimed at performance the l98 is out, it's old hat and in need of all the same work as any other shortblock to make power. if your aimed at saving a buck the l98 is still crappy because while you're out there burning up rear tires and losing highway races, the l98 keeps you feelin warm by emptying your pocket at the pump.
F!ck the l98. it serves it's purpose stock but it does not put impressive numbers on the board nor can it without serious surgery. i choose it once i wouldnt choose it again. i'd just get a shortblock and start from there.
my friend got beat by a lo3 camaro i forget what yr it was and he has a 03 neon r/t so you can beat one of them hahaha
Heh. I beat one of them too. I just stayed with him for a while at about 2/3 throttle, then I floored it, my car downshifted and I pulled away. That's about the only time I raced anyone from a stoplight.

My old 305 rs's would beat altimas at the track, they made good bracket cars because they were consistenly slow... 16.30's all night!!! 90-92 L98's are great with the minor modifications headers, cold air, rockers, timing advance, etc. I almost wish I kept my 91 Z28, bone stock 14.1@ 97-98mph all night. Not everyone is out there to beat the next guy. if you are, let me clue you in, there is always someone faster.
btw, Highway roll races are for homos and import owners..... wait that's redundant.

guess you dont know much about jbodies
my Sunfire is a base model (no options) 05' 5speed. weighs 2700 lbs. has the 2.2L Ecotec motor... 140hp/150ftlbs. there have been some that have gone low 15s bone stock with decent launches, but i only went 2.3/2.4 in the 60ft
go over to www.jbody.org and do some research before you call BS
actually, heres a link to a thread started right here on good old thirdgen.org about these Ecotec jbodies. enjoy:

TPI is cool looking and all, But I agree totally with you, 350 short blocks are dirt cheap, a set of camelback heads, a good intake and a Holley 650 and you're laughing..
I think you forgot to mention you have an "SS" supercharged Cobalt. I just looked it up, stock '07 Cobalt 1/4 is 17.3! I was gonna say, I killed an orange Cobalt with a fart can... had two cars on him by 60 and I was still pulling!

Actually, last year at Cordova, I witnessed a guy in our car club run a 15.2 in his Cobalt... 2.4L, 5-speed... bone stock
Granted, there was some good air that day, but that's still a full two seconds faster than you're claiming.

how much did you pay for your car dude. if i may ask.

1)the topic of the thread is beating others, so yea i'll talk about it.
2)while there is always someone faster, it's dissapointing to grow up thinkin l98's are the start of true fun when infact they're just another anemic thirdgen engine. what's the l98 got that a 650'd 350 doesnt? i'll tell you what, a wall blocking your smiles at 5000 rpm.
3)the highway is where you will encounter many races if you're a city dweller, it's safer cop wise to be rolling already if you've got a chase car catching vids. cars i can destoy in the 1/8th can tear me up from 60.
4)thirdgens have awesome cornering and decent launch/ low end torque. not awd ability but good even for FR, if i had a 305 car i'd be lookin at auto x where it's a drivers/tire race not a question of budget and power.

When all was said and done and it was finally sitting in my driveway, $3,100. I did some engine work, tune-up, got new T-tops, and some other small repairs, and the total now is $4,300.
No. it doesnt. it's a bit easier to get mustangs into the 12's then (EDIT: ) l98 thirdgens
gotta remember, 10 years ago sbf was alot more expensive to build then a sbc, now it's a wash. so when you read old articles about l98's whoopin 5.0's, remember that's not up to date.

umm....no such thing as an automatic 2.4L S/C 4 door
Mines an "SS" with the 173hp 2.4L NA
Yeah a 2.2L automatic would very likely lose against an L03.

I'd be up for a race lol! The rice boy with the Integra that was trash talking me backed out of his race today... figures. He knew he was going to get his fart can handed to him lol. By an LO3 ouch!
I thought the SS Cobalts were only manuals with two doors
There are two SS models of Cobalts (atleast back when they were supercharged not turboed) the SS I and the SS II the latter of which was only available as a 2 door 5 speed supercharged coupe producing roughly a pretty pathetic 200hp. atleast the new turbo models are in excess of 260hp. where the SS I could be purchased as a coupe or a sedan available with stick and auto

IMO, I don't think that 200hp is "pretty pathetic" for a factory four banger. Remember, this thread started with "What can a stock LO3 beat", which only makes 170hp with four more cylinders.
i knew it was a dog so i didnt race anything. plus my charger was up and going at the time it has a big block so i didnt feel the need to race a smallblock chevy. but i idid get my *** handed to me by a couple 5.0's before.
I'm not so sure I would say that. There is some potential in the 5.0 Mustangs. Takes next to nothing to go 12s. 11s aren't tough either. Oh yeah, and thats using mostly stock Ford parts off different vehicles. The only parts on my car that didn't come on a stock Ford is the headers, midpipe, catback, cold air kit, MAF and shifter!
My brothers 86 GT is the same way, only mods not from a stock Ford are the headers, midpipe, catback, shifter, MAF and a couple of suspension pieces! His has been 12.14 @ 111 and he is still working on the driving. He also got some better headers and an X pipe... Should go low low 12s, who knows, 11.99 this season!
BTW: not knocking the SBC, everyone knows what they can do, but it seems like some here don't know what a 5.0 fox can do, thats why I feel the need to share what our cars with stock Ford parts do!

i see where u are coming from and I understand that there are other factory forced induction 4 bangers like the TC that produce ~200hp. I am considerint things like the new civic si produces a similar hp rating from a NA 4 banger at a similar price to the old S/C Cobalt. The new turbo SS is more on par with what the SRT4 was doin 4-5 years ago.

How old are you? Were you around in the 80's when the 5.0 mustangs walked all over the third gens? Even the l98's.Its alot easier now to bolt on a third gen to compete with the 5.0's, but not from 82-92.

Sadly, I'm almost 18. I just missed the 80's, and man, sounds like I missed out on a hell of a decade! I was born like seven months before my car was built. Looking at articles comparing the Iroc vs. 5.0, the numbers are very close, but the Mustang has a slightly better acceleration rate. But look at top speed. Iroc wins! Ford based their 80's 5.0 on a very simple logic. Small car, big engine. But look at the cost! Those things look like a mix between a Festiva and an Escort! GM kept the Camaro larger, and those Iroc's were sexy! So essentially, this is what you're racing. Small car, big motor vs. Big car, big motor. If you consider that, you'll realize that the Camaro really wasn't too bad at all. I know several Ford guys who say the only good looking American car in the 80's was the Iroc-z, that's saying something. God bless GM.
