Darn, I broke that 'Man Law.' Don't worry though, I'm trying to get another 3rd gen with a V8.

Nah, I didn't break any Man Laws, I have a 71 Jimmy with a nice 350 in it.

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

How about a manual valvebodied TH-350 that'll break tires loose shifting into 3rd at a 4500 rpm shift? Granted there isn't enough power in the car yet for rubber patches at "freeway speeds" or even sideways travel on the 3rd gear shift, but the tires do bark.

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

first car a was 700r4 vortec swap 3rd gen.
quickest car i have owned was auto th350 equipped
m6 are fun and all, but m6 will never beat a th350 with equally prepared engines, heck, even a lesser engine with a proper tq converter will take out a standard.

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

I would have to agree, the th350 in my jimmy is niice. Quick smooth shifting. It's more of a car than an actual truck.

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

I haven't been around too much for a few years (had to let my old Formula go back in '03), so I thought I'd check in. Good thread to run across. =)

I recently just got back into fast cars, and since GM broke my heart by killing the F-body, but around here I grew an instinctual hate of Mustangs, I had one place left to turn. I guess my Challenger R/T makes me the enemy now, but I wanted to throw in $1.50 worth of .02.

First, they do make a V6 Chally. They don't sell because Dodge marketing sucks. Easiest way to spot them is no spoiler.

The R/T is the small Hemi, and despite Motor Trend's abysmal 14 second run, I have seen stock auto R/Ts run 12.9. No, I'm not making that up. Excellent driver helped. Sure as hell wasn't me. =). Easy way to spot the R/T is the body matched spoiler and Hemi badge on the hood.

Of course there's the way overpriced SRT-8, which I've never been to close too. They're the only ones with full hood stripes, and they all have black spoilers. Happy hunting all. =)

As for the win, in an 00 SS with that much money in it, I hope you won! If that much was poured into the Chally, it would've been a little more even, no?

Anyway, glad thirdgen is still going strong. See you all out there !

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

You're not the enemy, I actually like the new Challenger, it keeps it's old muscle look. Dodge finally did something right. I would like to race the V6 one just to see how I stack up, but just R/Ts and SRT-8s here. Unfortunately, it's only old people and those with money, yet don't know how to drive, that buy those cars; so I'm sure I could beat them even with my Camaro. They have a serious driver mod malfunction.

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

I have to admit, there's an age/income despondancy when it comes to cars. When I was late teens/early 20's I had my V6 Firebird and wouldn't back down from a Viper if I found one. Of course, as much as I loved that car, it was what it was, at least on my starving student budget. Then I had my Formula, which was fast as hell, but I was already working more than racing. Now I can afford a kick *** car, and I mostly baby it. Mostly...

Probably best. If I had a 13 second car when I was 19, I wouldn't have lived this long.

Re: Challenger: Not much of a Challenge

Haha, yeah, at my age its hard to not to drive fast when in a fast car. I try to be responsible, though. I've slowed down a lot since I got my license. I'm 22 now and go only 5 over the speed limit and that's when I'm in a hurry. I might be getting a V8 in the following week so who knows what will happen then. haha.
