Re: what are the tricks to more horsepower

The biggesst trick to horsepower is getting your engine to breath, (air intake and exhaust), and manage it's fuel correctly and efficiently. The 305's biggest cripple for serious power is it's cylinder heads. Exhaust components, air intake components, ignition components, and camshafts will all help, but your heads are your major limiting factor. Porting and polishing, as well as valve replacements would be a great way to start, but at the price some shops may charge it may be better to buy after market heads. A good and relatively inexpensive first investment is usually a quality after-cat exhaust system, then for most of us it goes up from there.

Re: what are the tricks to more horsepower

what is your budget?
a simple mod would be a cutout in the exhaust, it will improve the engine some, and a k&n filter.
a 125 n2o plate will help move a lil quicker

Re: what are the tricks to more horsepower

not sure this is even the right place for this type of post.. but if your looking for simple bolt on stuff new intake manifold and a better carb. im a holley fan so id say go 570 street avenger for your motor with a wiend warrior manifold. thats about 500 for both.. headers ( these can be used on a bigger sbc if u ever wanna go that direction) and exhaust thats about another 500-600. get a raised base air cleaner and a k&n filter if it will fit under your hood.. ignitions stuff will help with a lil bit of hp not much but throttle response will increase from a msd box a higher output coil, wires ect. these all are kinda pricey jegs has a full sbc ignition set for 600 bucks witch is well worth it everything bought one by one is 720. underdrive pulleys and air condition delete will help. other than that your looking at internal engine stuff and thats going to get pricey..

honestly n i tell this to everyone.. rear gears will increas your acceleration more than any bolt on motor part will ever help. 3.73 is nice if you like to have highway and line worlds

Re: what are the tricks to more horsepower

its not hard to make power. more air + mopre fuel= more power. in order to make a good engine make sure your base is strong and work with bolt ons then internals then power adders
