I have my Z28 garaged right now, but when I bring it out; this kid wants to race me in his Neon R/T (I don't know the year...90 something).
My car is a 305 TPI/Auto - I have LTs, 3 inch Y-Pipe, Cat Delete, Flowmaster Catback, K&N Filter, MSD GM Blaster, MSD Super Conductors, TPIS Airfoil, A/C Delete, Smog Delete, 3.42s, and probably some other misc mods.
His car is a 4 cyl/5 speed (I don't know crap about neons), I think it has camshafts and maybe a CAI, I don't know. Can he drive? I don't know, it's just some kid...
The road is somewhat long so I imagine Top End might actually be a factor here.
Whose gonna take the win?

unless your car is running horribly, you'd better not lose to a 90s economy car! the 305TPI is a decent engine and in a totally different league. The only Neons that even considered performance were the later model SRT4s.

5 speed neons are actually pretty quick for what they are, my brother had one and it could move when you wanted/needed it to. That being said I don't see you losing to it. And I wouldn't worry about the top end either, by the time your 305 starts running out of breath he'll be out of gearing, and he has a 118mph govoner (which takes a couple miles to get up to).
Anyways, I was just double checking to make sure neons were super sleepers or anything. If I lost I would be so embarassed, I'd have to go home and get my Trans Am out! (355!)

Friend of mine had a '95 Neon. We put a lot of work into his car, P&P head, long tube header, UDPs, full exhaust and intake, cams, etc. When I ran him with my then stock '85 LB9, the only place that he could hang with me was a rolling start between 55-60. My car wouldn't downshift to second, so he had the gearing advantage at that point. As soon as he shifted, I walked away. No where else could he keep up, that said, if it's got a turbo, all bets are off.
Yeah those early neons weigh nothing so if he had some mods and a turbo it would be pretty quick. With that said if it is a stock rt then you should deffently beat him. Like some of the other guys are saying race a srt-4 those are worth racing my friend just bought one and there is no way I could keep up with him. It also helps he has stage 3 turbo kit with a lot of other extras.
hmmm... the iconic high performance Camaro Z28, or the affordable small car neon introduced with the ad campaign that simply said "Hi" above the cute little car? Race for pinks, because if you can't win that race, you should be shamed out of ever driving a Camaro again :-)

crane 14's in that rt with the dohc intake and some decent driving will slap that car in the low 14's just because there 4bangers doesn't mean there slow ive ran my fair share of n/a rt's out here in vegas, and lost a few times to them as well. gl with the race just get him to go from a dig if he's inexperienced youll get him out the hole
To the guy above, telling everyone you lost to a n/a neon is not recommended on this site, especially if your running the l98, you musta had a flat tire or something? neons, even modded, are out of their league.

I'm going to agree with Vin on this one, I wouldn't bother wasting the gas, especially because he is just some random kid. Tell him to go pound sand and find some Hondas to play with.
