Re: scared to race

take it to the track is the first thing i would suggest, but im not really sure what your car could beat, theres a good list though. Just get out there and get into the Stoplight wars, dont be scared to get beat it happens to the best of us, but ALWAYS be scared and aware, do not get comfortable. Im an electrician and i think it goes the same with everything you get comfortable and then you make a mistake.

thanks, only reason why i'm worried is because everyone that i hang out with runs a ls1. Which i know i have no chance with lol. And anyone that wants to run always has a new mustang or something with a bigger v8.

the 91 LB9 is a pretty strong motor, you don't have a peanut cam. Take it to the track and get some base numbers... then get nitrous. It doesn't matter if you get beat. If you do, just pull up next to the other guy and give a thumbs up....

Re: scared to race

You never know til you try! When I had my 305 I lost quite a few races, every now and then I'd beat someone who should of beat me, usually due to driver error on their part! Just have fun, that's why we are here...

Don't be embarrassed if you lose. It's all in fun. Like it was said above, give them a thumbs up. I've raced some cars that KILLED me. I'd always give them props. From Vettes to SRT4's. Hopefully it should be a little different with the new setup. Just have fun and be responsible about it. There is a time and place for it.

Re: scared to race

I had the same problem you do. I had a beat up Camaro with a really tired old 350. It had really bad tires and a **** rear end. All my freinds had S197's with every mod possible to it. I got beat and I beat others. But I agree on the thums up I always do that when people beat me. It is just for fun. Play it safe and have fun.

Re: scared to race

Its all fun and games until you get caught, I know! I have had 2 street racing tickets in the past 2 years. No fun.

I still can't help myself sometimes though. I know for a fact that I only race cars that I think will be a good race. I don't race most imports.

Re: scared to race

i have raced every thing i have owned. two 305 luxury cars , and my camaro... lol its all in the fun you have with it. as far as cars you can race any one going faster than you is a prime subject. people you MUST race, cars with mufflers you can fist and spoilers you have to duck under..... lol... i also have a wing man, basically he gives the opposing car a initiating stair.

getting beat is gonna happen, thiers always someone faster. just keep a weary eye out for the po-po. A little late night stoplight drag is good for the soul, just not for the wallet if ya get pinched.

Re: scared to race

me and my buddy were talking about this very topic a while ago. he had just bought a el camino that had the original 350, and was stock.
he was hesitant to really race people as he didnt want to look like a fool.

in the end i told him it was like the first time i fought competitively, you just have to try and the chances of you ending up in the hospital are slim if you have an idea of what your doing. thats all it took now he is building a 454 for it and races every chance he gets.

Re: scared to race

My last 3rd gen I had was a T/A just like yours. 305/auto/2.73 car. First thing you need to do besides a tune up, is find a 3.42 or 3.27/3.23 rear if the deal is awesome. That will wake up your car and it will feel like the motor grew 25% in power. With that car and shorty headers, at 0* timing, I raced my bro's supercharged GTP with full exhaust and intake (stock pulley) and was dead even with him. And his car was an easy mid 14 second car.

But definately be careful, and have fun. But mostly be careful. If the other driver looks like an idiot, don't race. Thats when people get killed.

Re: scared to race

you would be surprised at who you can beat. my 83 z28 with its tired h.o. 305 and 2.83 rear held its own against a few rsx type s's and a few swapped civics and an rx8 on the highway. i wouldnt be too afraid of imports as long as you can leave hard and dont make a mistake you will be alright. and like someother people said if you lose dont get bitter or angry just go home and get faster.
