305 TPI Z28 vs 403 Firebird

Hi everyone,

I am curious on who would win in a drag race. At an actual drag strip, I don't street race.

My car is a 1992 Camaro Z28 with a 305 TPI/Auto. The opponent is a 1979 Firebird. He has the 403 Olds motor and auto.

Everybody challenges me to race, seeing how this is probably the most challenge in the area, I obliged. I want to know who will stock vs stock, and modded vs modded.

I have plenty of little mods, but my car is lighter I'm sure and better maintained. I don't know the mods on his car but I prefer to use my underdog 305 than to swap it out for a 350. I figure his car is heavier.

Most people on this board will say to just race him. But it will be a few months before he gets his license, so I want to make sure if I need to worry.

What do you guys think? The 1992 Z28 with 98 less cubes or the '78 firebird?

Re: 305 TPI Z28 vs 403 Firebird

Seeing as how he doesn't have a license, how well is he at driving? What's the condition of this Firebird, do you know?

I know not having a license doesn't automatically make you a bad driver, but then again, lack of experience (unless he races). You should have him. Unless that motor has some real nice work done to it, or if it's not as maintained as yours, you should be fine. Even so, he has to have experience racing it, it could end up scaring him, being too powerful.

Re: 305 TPI Z28 vs 403 Firebird

It's an auto, I'm sure he'll just floor it off the line..spinning tire like mad, while I'll hook and go, that's what I'm thinking. I have a stall around 2700-3000, so I have to find the sweet spot and I should have a great launch.

I never raced either, but I have driven more powerful vehicles just fine. 403s make more torque, but less hp so I'm sure I can catch up even if he does get away.

Re: 305 TPI Z28 vs 403 Firebird

im just wondering why do you have a stall that high.... that seems pretty high for a stockish 305 tpi..... but i think you should win... those cars are at least 500 pounds heavier.....
